In a nail-biting finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lando Norris clinched his first Formula 1 drivers' championship by securing the necessary third place. The 26-year-old Briton edged out Red Bull's Max Verstappen by just two points, despite Verstappen winning the race. Norris becomes the 11th British F1 world champion, marking a triumphant end to his seventh season.

McLaren, Norris's team, celebrated a landmark victory, securing both drivers' and constructors' titles for the first time since 1998. The GP was tense from the start, with Verstappen dominating, but McLaren maintained control as Oscar Piastri, Norris’s teammate, finished in second, fully prepared to assist if necessary. This stellar teamwork capped a season where Norris made a remarkable comeback after a slow start.

Speaking after the race, an emotional Norris said, "I've not cried in a while and I didn't think I would cry but I did. It feels amazing." He praised his rivals, Verstappen and Piastri, acknowledging the intense competition, "I want to congratulate Max and Oscar, my two biggest competitors the whole season." His victory marks a significant achievement in motorsport, not only for Norris but for British racing history.

Looking ahead, Norris's victory reshapes the F1 landscape with expectations high for continued performances. McLaren’s resurgence sparks interest in future races, with eyes on potential new rivalries. As the next season looms, all teams are likely reevaluating their strategies, aiming to challenge McLaren's newfound dominance, reported the BBC.

Key Takeaways

  • Lando Norris wins his first F1 title with third place in Abu Dhabi.
  • McLaren secures its first double title since 1998.
  • Norris defeated Red Bull's Max Verstappen by two points.

Great to see Lando do this for Britain.

With Lewis Hamilton focusing on his fashion career it's great to have a nice young man like Lando flying the flag for us Brits in F1.

Do it for Britain? BS.

As i said in the other thread about this. McLaren has had the fastest car all season. So rightfully one of them won. I do feel McLaren has disadvantaged Piastri on quite a few occasions though.

Sour grapes much. Where’s that ‘tosspot’ emoji when you need it? Take it wherever the heck you hail from can’t put together a driving school to produce quality like this.

lol nice baggies. He’s still the best. Put everyone in the same car in inclement conditions and he’ll come out on top most times.

Definitely different. But each to their own. The top pic is kinda like a Scottish woke outfit. Some bagpipes for effect maybe.

Absolutely. Not my type of clobber but whatever floats his boat is cool with me.

He seems to be going for the "40 year old Jaden Smith" vibe.

I felt Lando was very lucky to escape a penalty for an off-circuit overtake of Tsunoda after which he should have handed back the place gained. Mostly, and conveniently, explained by Sky and the British media as being Tsunoda's fault for weaving.
