Elderly Woman Killed While Intervening in Nephew’s Dispute

An 82-year-old woman was fatally struck with a knife while trying to stop a quarrel between her grandson and his rival in Lampang in the early hours of 8 December 2025. Police said the attacker continued threatening neighbours before being arrested shortly after the incident. The case has shocked the local community in Mae Tam village, where officers responded at 03:30 in the morning.

Pol Sub Lt Panisara Phimpachart, an investigator at Soem Ngam Police Station, received the initial report and alerted Pol Col Thanit Nanthawisit, the station superintendent, before attending the scene with rescue workers, hospital staff and investigative teams. The fatal attack occurred inside a raised wooden house. Officers found the victim, Sriphan, aged 82, lying in a bedroom with a severe knife wound to the head and blood pooled on the floor.

Rescue personnel conducted an initial examination before transporting the body to Soem Ngam Hospital’s forensic unit. Police soon identified the suspect as Natthachon, aged 48, a local resident of Mae Tam. After the killing, he allegedly attempted to attack neighbours, prompting police to surround the area and detain him.

Investigators learned that the suspect had been arguing with the victim’s grandson and was carrying a knife during the confrontation. Sriphan intervened to break up the dispute but was struck in the head. Police seized the weapon and took Natthachon for questioning. Khoasod reported that officers said the suspect will be charged in accordance with the law, and further investigation will continue at Soem Ngam Police Station.
