Dual Pricing. (yes another thread on it)

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I know this topic is commented on a lot. After an experience this week I decided to ask what is the highest ratio of Thai to Farang pricing that you have encountered?

A few of us visited a tourist attraction in Krabi province.  Thai entry was 30baht and Farang price 400. Thats over 13 times.

Ok let the "if you cant afford it or whatever" comments begin.

Europe should start to do the same.

No wonder tourists who are waking up are not spending so much. Sure tourists may come to Thailand but what they spend in Thailand has drastically dropped. Just look how empty the restaurants are in popular beach towns like Hua Hin, and so due to the overcharging. Maybe it's ok in Pattaya but Hua Hin most of the restaurants remain empty or are very rarely full. Even in Bangkok, the spending has drastically dropped. Sure restaurants may be packed in BKK, but people spend far less compared to before.

Same for all those tailor shops along Nana and elsewhere in Thailand who used to have great work and materials 10 years ago. Now they use cheap unqualified labour to stich.  The clothes are badly cut and stiched, The materials are lower quality. Only the price is high. Not going to feel sorry when they shut down at this rate ! If you want good stuff now in bespoke made clothes, you need to pay the same prices as back in Europe or in the West.

Sorry to expose this grim reality. 🙏

I don't go places that do dual pricing except golf, where I play it's 300 baht, Thais 50-150 baht, but it saves me wasting 2,000 baht with caddy elsewhere so acceptable but not on holidays or weekends where price goes up

I,m guessing it was a pool attraction....if so I first went there 9 years ago with a Thai family and showed my Thai Driving Licence after much too-ing and fro-ing they accepted it....Thai price was paid.....few years later went back, sorry no can do....U pay farang price mister...walked away.

On another topic a pal of mine went for the all you can eat/drink promotion at a large beachfront Hotel here in Pattaya 1000 baht/per couple for 2 hours....he`s a single chap and in the past paying 500 baht was accepted....on this occasion a middle aged school maam type refused him entry unless he paid 1000 baht....all discussions about what had happened previously were ignored its 1000 baht or you don`t come in.....there was a gent from the USA nearby and upon hearing what was going on called my pal back as he was about to exit....he announced that he was a Gold Member of the particular Hotel chain and would he like to join him as a free guest.....the look on the ladies face was priceless as he walked in for free :cheesy:

Yep it was. Another farang and myself showed our Thai drivers licences. Only Thai ID accepted. I said this is a Thai ID and I used as IF for flying here. Just brushed me off. After visiting the pool I regretted paying the price as it was just not worth it. Never recommend it to anyone.

Since there is no law against doing it, there is no law re ratio.  If a higher ratio turns some foreigners away, the same higher ratio means a greater profit from the ones who enter.

We have a house nearby and visit Ao Nang often....when returning I see many tourists on motorcycles obviously going there from their Hotels in Ao Nang after reading/hearing about this "wonderful attraction" it makes me sad that once there they get ripped off....TIT unfortunately :whistling:

I rather like the dual pricing, as it allows me to outraged at Farang treatment, and thus a perfect excuse not to go to national parks or anywhere else i might have to perform physical activity

I have a Thai ID card (Pink card for foreigners)  That's frequently met with "Cannot, you farang"

Last weekend we went to the NaSatta Light Festival in Ratchaburi.  The prices had been 200 baht for Thai and 400 baht for foreigners.  I went up to get our tickets and I told the cashier in Thai, "I am Thai."  He replied back in English, "The price is the same for everyone now."  It was 300 baht per person.

You wear these Thumbs down emojis as a badge of pride - as if going against the grain & making a daft comment sells you as some sort of free thinker, when in fact it’s just a daft comment that enough ppl sufficiently disagree with to show it.

Think I was just quoted way too much at lesser known private wing Thai University hospital (Thammarsat) for knee Arthroscopy (260,000 baht).

I recall Bumrungrad being cheaper than that!

Theres no way I can double check that unless I see a Thai going for the same op & see his quote.

Richard, those guys on the Days of Our Lives thread have rattled you, there's no need for your aggression or hostility.

I saw that you recently posted vulgarities. 😁

I genuinely agree with dual pricing, why not.

My salary, I earn 10 times that of a Thai, most foreigners earn much more than Thai's, foreigners should pay more .

People disagree with me because I'm different to most here.

I never whinge or whine or speak negatively about Thailand.

Some of the moaners and complainers hate me for being PRO Thailand

Your salary is not 10x most of the Thai’s I know (& I have a very good idea of what a rig safety guy gets).

So - that argument is flawed.

If your GF is 10x wealthier than the average Thai - should she pay 10x more at parks ? - that’s where such dumbed down arguments fall apart.

People disagree with you in the threads here you write dumb shyat….

Nothing wrong being pro-Thailand - I am too, but also see things for the way they are without unhinged pro-Thai or Pro-Foreigner bias…  Your default position is anti-foreigner which is why end up getting the negative emojis.

& on the Dual pricing - when based on nationality alone it’s discriminatory - when based on residency it’s fair.

Mexico has triple pricing. One for pale skinned gringos. one for expats fluent in Spanish and one for Mexicans. On the way in I pay the gringo price but after a while when my Spanish gets up to speed i get the middle rate.

Kho Samed, they are checking ID now . Being brown is not enough so if you are from Laos , Burma or China you pay the top rate.

1. I didn't see your vulgar comment, just the comment regarding its removal 😂

2. I think you need time away from the forum Richard, you are losing it.

3. My job title is not safety, I am a supervisor on the rig, all supervisors are safety officers.

4. Dumb shyat.... Well we both agree that the other writes dumb shyat.

I reckon it's the first time we've ever agreed

Europe has dual pricing already.   The Louvre in Paris will be doing dual pricing.  Many other tourist attractions around the world have dual pricing.  Nothing new, nothing unique to Thailand.

  • Popular Post

People's argument for racist pricing is that whities can afford it.

Yet, a Thai arriving in a Maserati, Porsche 911, Rolls Royce or Lamborghini still pays the Thai price.

  • Popular Post

The reason why thailand needs to start respecting the tourist is because their economy is dependent on tourism. People arent stupid. Eventually they will catch on and thailand wont get them back, and then there goes thailands economy

Agreed. As of January 1 2026 the US is introducing dual pricing at several National Parks. I believe it is a B3,000 ($100 US)  per person surcharge on top of what residents pay.

Just paid 300 for Erawan.(Thais 30)

Tried the Thai driving license, nowt doing.

TIT,suck it up.

Wat Arun: Thais free, farangs 200 Baht.

Dual pricing ratio is 200/0 =
