The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has temporarily closed the Aranyaprathet railway station in Sa Kaeo due to escalating border conflicts with Cambodia. The closure affects train services as intense fighting along the border prompted safety concerns. Timetables have been adjusted, with trains now terminating at Sa Kaeo station.

The situation intensified on Sunday when Aranyaprathet Municipality ordered an evacuation following reports of explosions and heavy-weapons fire in the vicinity. Residents were directed to safe zones as a precautionary measure. Three train routes are impacted, specifically Train 279, 280, and 275/276, which have been rerouted to terminate at Sa Kaeo.

Aranyaprathet station is crucial as it connects with the Ban Khlong Luk border station, adjacent to Cambodia. The disruption is indefinite, pending further developments at the border. The SRT has expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by this suspension of services.

Experts indicate that such conflicts can disrupt regional connectivity and affect local economies. The border area is significant for trade and travel, underscoring the importance of a quick resolution. Diplomatic efforts may be required to ease tensions and ensure the safety of citizens.

Looking ahead, authorities will likely continue to monitor the situation closely. The SRT will provide updates, and residents should stay informed about evacuation orders and service resumptions. The timeline for resuming normal operations remains uncertain until stability is assured in the conflict zone, reported Bangkok Post.
