Rescue teams in Tak province have successfully recovered the body of a 22-year-old female tourist who fell into a 200-metre-deep ravine at the Doi Jor Wa Lae natural attraction, with the body being transported for a detailed post-mortem examination. The operation concluded on 26 December 2025 after a coordinated effort by multiple agencies working in difficult terrain, bringing closure to an incident that shocked local communities and visitors.

The victim was identified as Ms Sarocha Wijitpanya, aged 22, from Surat Thani province, who had been visiting the area with her boyfriend. She reportedly fell into the ravine on 25 December at Doi Jor Wa Lae, a well-known natural tourist site in Tha Song Yang subdistrict, Tha Song Yang district, Tak province, in an incident witnessed by her partner.

Following the fall, officials from the Tha Song Yang district disaster prevention unit coordinated with related agencies to access the remote forested area. Rescue teams faced significant challenges due to the steep ravine and rugged conditions, with the recovery site located approximately 200 metres below the viewing area.

According to reports on 26 December 2025, the body was successfully recovered at around 4.00 pm. Officers from Mae Moei Police Station, Tha Song Yang subdistrict disaster prevention officials, and Phetkasem emergency medical responders jointly carried out the operation, carefully securing and retrieving the body from the ravine.

After recovery, officials began transporting the body on foot through forest paths to Ban Klui Luang in Tha Song Yang district. From there, the body was taken to Mae Moei Police Station to begin formal legal procedures in accordance with the law.

Police confirmed that the body would be sent to the forensic department at Mae Sot Hospital for a detailed autopsy. The examination is intended to confirm the cause of death and document injuries, forming part of the official investigation process.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the fall, and no conclusions have yet been announced. Officials stated that all steps would proceed in line with legal requirements once forensic results are available.

Daily News reported that the case has drawn attention to safety risks at natural tourist attractions, particularly in remote and mountainous areas. Local authorities are expected to review safety measures and access conditions at the site following the completion of the investigation.
