January 2Jan 2 I'll try to clarify. My Aussie passport expires in June next year, but my retirement visa is normally from July to July, so when I do my next visa renewal in July this year, will it be only issued to June when my passport expires, so I will only get 11 months not 12?

Its all done online and posted application. You keep your existing pp. My Oz pp was done a year ago and the process took 20 days from going to post office till new pp landed at my Bangkok condo.

As an Aussie passport costs the best part of $500 now I'd like to get the maximum use out of it. I don't mean waiting until the last minute, but maybe in April or May would still leave plenty of time.

January 3Jan 3 You can always transfer your visa from an old to new passport. Also you don’t want to be traveling outside your home country with less than 6 months on your passport.
January 3Jan 3 My Oz passport expires in 12 months; my "retirement" visa expires in 6 months; I am in the process of getting a new Oz passport now (hopefully it will arrive by month's end).
