Hands Off Greenland! Danish PM Blasts Trump Threats

Denmark's Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, has urged Donald Trump to halt threats regarding the annexation of Greenland. Frederiksen declared that it "makes absolutely no sense" for the United States to consider taking over Greenland and affirmed the US has "no right" to annex any nation in the Danish kingdom. Her remarks were in response to a tweet by Katie Miller showcasing Greenland in American flag colours captioned "SOON."

The interest stems from Greenland’s strategic position and mineral resources, with Trump expressing intentions to annex it. Frederiksen reaffirmed Denmark's NATO membership and a defence agreement with the US, allowing them access to Greenland while highlighting Denmark's increased investment in Arctic security. She urged the US to cease threats against a loyal ally and a country that clearly expressed resistance to a potential sale.

Denmark's ambassador to the US swiftly responded to Ms Miller's tweet, reminding the US of the nations’ alliance and Denmark's expectation for respect regarding territorial integrity. This diplomatic exchange follows a recent US military operation in Venezuela where President Nicolas Maduro was captured.

Trump has not dismissed the idea of using force to gain Greenland, citing that its incorporation would boost US security due to its location and mineral wealth. The appointment of a special envoy to Greenland by the Trump administration has sparked furor in Denmark. Meanwhile, Greenlanders, although largely in favour of eventual independence, overwhelmingly oppose becoming a US territory, reported the BBC.

Key Takeaways

  • Danish PM Frederiksen urges Trump to halt Greenland annexation threats.

  • Greenland's strategic location and resources drive US interest in the region.

  • Greenlanders strongly oppose any move to become part of the US.

I think Putin must be eyeing Alaska as it was their land in the past. Ignore the purchase. Just 62 miles from Russia, claiming back their right to the land and its oil is a big draw. After Ukraine it must be in their sights as it is closer than many European countries.

Trump is looking at making a friendship deal for sure.

Despite this scurrilous intervention in Venezuela, I will be surprised if DT attacks Greenland . . .

At far greater risk are Columbia, Cuba, Mexico, Iran etc.

DT's lawless USA is resulting in an increasingly lawless World.

The Man is a walking tragedy - but I suppose all this distracts nicely from the Epstein files.

Yuk !

The world must stand up to this low IQ bully Trump but first it’s going to need the American people to reel him in.

Stand fast Denmark.

The US arms industry needs villains to justify spending if there are not enough then they need to invent some. China and Russia are not spread over the world like some evil pox they are only deemed enemies to justify more military spending. China spends its money on infrastructure development and industry ,that's why the US is being left behind. BYD is the second largest car manufacturer in the world Huawei the most advanced . The US refuses compete honestly so they demonize them to keep them out.

Well, what could possible go wrong, or be worse teaming up with China? At least China seems to be the intelligent power right now, and the future! Trump is on par with Kim Jong Un thinking of rhetoric and mental stated, and they both have nukes. Ugh 😣

If one NATO member attacks another, NATO is bound by its charter to defend.

That's the plan. If the US attacks Greenland, it will evoke art.5 and the US army will intervene to defend it! 😅

That is correct and it sounds as if it's being recognized at EU level.

China has grasped what Trump and Putin, as continental conquerors and land amassers, have not even begun to: that global trade is a win win for all involved and doesn't involve killing, starving or otherwise abusing whole nations of innocents. Because it's not blasting, burning and otherwise destroying people and assets it leads to more prosperity and a better life for everyone involved. Land does not equal power or Russia would be the world number 1. Warring nations inherit only ruins. A lesson we in Europe have learned.

China also has Putin firmly by the short and curlies and a few historic accounts to settle with Moscow as well. Putin is smart enough to know the tab will become due. And that he/Russia is now by far the weaker of the two countries. Putin's land grab has turned Russia into a Chinese vassal. His entire Greater Russia strategy has failed totally. That could be to the EU's advantage if played well.

Trump's 'Donroe Doctrine' (i.e. aggression towards neighbors) will fail in its own way for similar reasons. You'll have no friends and only butt licking sycophants and non-entity, incompetent grovelers of the lowest orders left. There is a size difference, but the US' relationship with the rest of the world will be a bit like the UK's relationship with the EU after its shameful behavior and exit. People will only deal with you if they have to and only when it benefits them not you.

Sad. the US could have been such a force for good in the post-Iron Curtain world. We now know what the majority of Americans think, admire and want. Trump was nothing if not transparent about who he is and what he wanted to do, before he was elected.

There should be international laws that if a person threatens to take ovger another country, they get to spend lots of time in jail.

It should not matter if they are a country leader or not either.

The USA does not need a leader like Donald J Trump, who seems to be off his nut, in my opinion.
