January 13Jan 13 I called the land office and they did not say about visa they say need certificate of residence, health check and getting UK license verified at UK embassy in Bangkok. Is it possible on visa exempt? Thank you.
January 13Jan 13 Call them back and ask about visa, mixed reports lately. In Pattaya you don't need UK embassy involved, UK licence and IDP is best, medical cert and residence certificate
January 13Jan 13 I think you called the Department of Land Transport, the Land Office is unrelated to driving licences. It's not normally possible to get a certificate of residence on a visa exempt entry, however, it all depends on your local immigration office, they have the power to issue it if they want.
January 13Jan 13 It would be best to share which DLT office you plan on using but I would think most would want to see a 12 month visa/extension + lease as well as the CoR.
January 13Jan 13 Popular Post The British Embassy cannot verify a UK driving licence ........... never heard of a DLT office requesting such.COR from Immigration and a medical certificate .... yes! They will only issue a 2 year temporary licence if you don't have Non Immigrant status.

January 15Jan 15 For a new driving license, the visa doesn't matter, as it's always issued with two years validity. For a renewal, on the other hand, the visa status does matter, as the validity could be five years (for longterm visa/extension holders) or just two years again (for anyone else). So the only question is if you're able to obtain a Certificate of Residence. Some immigration offices issue them for tourists and others don't. Best to check with your immigration office directly. There are also agents that can help.
January 15Jan 15 What's the point of a Thai drivers license for a tourist (visa exempt)? International drivers licenses are valid for use in pretty much any country for 180 days.

Even if the 1949 is valid for 3 years for general use, only works for 90 days per trip in certain countries

February 5Feb 5 Might be cheaper and easier to get an "International Driver License" with your UK license at DLT than your embassy.
