Seven civilians and 10 police officers have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and killing of cockfighting enthusiasts in the Philippines. The arrests follow two warrants issued by the Sta. Cruz, Laguna Regional Trial Court against 18 individuals, including gaming tycoon Atong Ang. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) confirmed the arrests, with civilians apprehended in Batangas and Laguna.

CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Robert Morico II announced the arrests at Camp Crame, revealing the civilians were under surveillance and included Ang's security and cockfighting arena employees. Initial reports indicated nine officers were in custody, but a tenth was later arrested. This officer had been dismissed from service prior to warrant issuance, identified only as a police master sergeant. Meanwhile, efforts to arrest Atong Ang continue, with manhunt operations in Metro Manila and Calabarzon.

Morico urged Ang to surrender, stating the tycoon is believed to still be in the country. CIDG teams searched Ang's properties in Pasig and Mandaluyong City but failed to locate him. Ang's lawyers initially delayed the search but cooperated eventually. CIDG NCR chief Col. John Guiagui warned against obstruction, emphasizing that those hindering warrant execution could face charges.

Ang denies involvement in the kidnappings and killings, claiming extortion threats from a person named Patidongan. The police continue to investigate, with Ang's location unknown and the public urged to provide any helpful information.

Charlene Lasco, sister of a victim, expressed gratitude for the arrest warrants, emphasizing the importance of vigilance. She stressed her belief in the involvement of at least 29 more individuals, voicing hope for justice and accountability, reported Inquirer.
