What happens when trump cancels the mid terms because he knows he will lose ??

The idea of a president "canceling" midterms is a common political topic of debate and many fall for the bait especially when Trump "jokes" about it, but according to the law, it cannot happen. The U.S. has held elections during wars and even the Great Depression because the schedule is controlled by the law, not by the person currently in the White House. The rules for when Americans vote are set in stone by law and the Constitution. The president is a participant in the system, not the person who owns or controls the schedule.

How is this any different from local mafia/thugs demanding 'protection money' from the local baker or bar owner, with threats against his business if he doesn't comply? It's not different of course. I

Imperialism won't work today Donald.

All countries must join forces and nuke this dictator.

He has the nerve to call Iran, Venuezala, Russia the problem.

Nuke the US terrorists, who are still supporting Israel killing 200 kids since Trump's ceasefire.

OK, full disclosure. I did not vote Trump in any primaries, I did vote for him in three general elections (well consider how awful the alternatives were).

This Greenland thing has me baffled. Both as to WHY he wants it so bad when we already have established bases and no end in sight of being allowed to remain, And, as to what right we have to force Denmark to cede it to the USA.

This no longer seems like a distraction issue to me and he seems serious about annexing it. Help a brother out. What the F is going on here?

What's going on? Trump is bat<deleted> crazy.

Yes, AOC is an opportunistic narcissist as well. But put her up against Trump and she looks like Thomas Jefferson. I supported DeSantis and later came to endorse first Biden and then Harris, because I think Trump is corrupt and incompetent. Frankly, if Harris were in office, right now those of us in Thailand would be getting 35 or 36 or maybe even 37 baht to the dollar. She would have made my life tangibly better.

What should Europe do in response to this latest threat?

An economic response will be needed but, perhaps the most telling action would be a co-ordinated boycott of the forthcoming World Cup. 16 of the 48 sides will be European (most of whom are members of either the EU, EEA or NATO). From a sporting perspective, the tournament would lose all credibility. Although I doubt that will bother Trump (or many Americans?), the cancellations and negative effect on the local US economies might.

It's unfortunate that the other hosts Canada and Mexico will also suffer from a boycott, but if they plus the likes of Australia and NZ could be persuaded to withdraw even better. Argentina will take part come what may but, again, if Brazil - a very big fish in footballing terms - and other central/ South American sides withdrew, then it is difficult to see how even a truncated tournament could be held. This would obviously be a complete embarrassment and loss of face for Trump, something that he would hate.

Unfortunately, getting nations to agree to a mass boycott, especially given the relatively short timescale, won't be easy. In addition, even if the governments agree to such a boycott, there is no guarantee that some of the individual national football associations will not send a team.

However despite these obstacles, I'd still give a try.

When I was 12 or 13 years old, I got an award for newspaper boy of the month from my route manager. Got to go down to the Belo building in downtown Dallas for a dinner and to receive the award, one of those cheap little plastic pieces colored in bronze. I wish I still had it. I would send it to Donny, who apparently somewhere along the age of 5 or 6 didn't get adequate approval from daddy, in the vain hope no doubt it might avert World War III. I urge all Americans to do likewise. Dig around for any award, plaque, or acknowledgment you might have laying around the house and send them to the White House.

I wonder how this thread will go? "I may do that" and no actual nations mentioned. This is simply Trump doing what Trump does. Threatening a possibility. Fairly sure this won't stop the tirade of Trump hate that will fill the comments on this thread.

That didn't age well. Many nations definitely mentioned now, and the date has been set to Feb 1st.

Your hero has lost it. The EU is discussing an answer as we speak, so here we go again, with a tariff war.

For what, I might add? For Trump's insane imperialism? Because all experts have dismissed the claim that Russia and China have any presence in the area, or any interest of invading Greenland. Why would they, Greenland is already protected by belonging to NATO. And the US already have a base there, and is free to expand if they want.

This is nothing else than an attempt of making America bigger, by bullying an ally, or several allies in Europe. It is about Greenland resources, and about Trump, who wants to make an impact on history.

It's completely insane in 2026. It's not the 1800s or early 1900s anymore.

There are definitely no grown-ups in the White House anymore.

When it comes to the world cup, I doubt you will get any country in Europe to withdraw. It's just a too popular event, and around half of it takes place in Mexico and Canada. Many European countries have worked really hard to qualify, Norway for instance, it's their first world cup (or Euro) in 28 years.

I love the idea, but I definitely think we should boycott the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Unless USA have come to their senses by then.

All the MAGAs originally claimed Trump's talk of taking Greenland was "just to troll the lefties".

Intelligent people have come to accept that when Trump suggests doing something, it's a sure thing he will try to do it.

NATO should do a preemptive strike on Mar-a-Lago on a golf weekend. Kind of like when the US did a preemptive strike on enrichment facilities in Iran. Nip the virus in the bud.

Don't buy USA bonds anymore, much more effective. Country will be broke in no time.

Is he really threatening Nato members that they must go against what the Nato agreement calls on them to do?

"World peace is at stake", Trump's latest message..

Yes, dummy, it is, and it's only because of YOUR imperialistic craziness. Keep your allies in NATO, try to act sane, stay away from Greenland, and world peace is NOT at stake.

He is threatening all supporters of Greenland and Denmark (which would be a lot of NATO countries and EU members) with a 10% extra tariff from February 1st, and with 25% from June 1st, if Greenland is not fully transferred to USA by then.

I had to make sure I was awake reading this. It's just insane.

Problem with that is if the US economy crashes (which it might if the bonds don't sell) the rest of the world follows suit.

What somehow got left out of my last post is that Elon Musk and Donald Trump are likely the two least charitable men in the history of mankind relative to their worth and it sure says a lot about who they are and what they are. And in that sense they are both deplorable pigs, with absolutely no understanding of the responsibility that comes with stewarding that kind of wealth, and it is always about me, me, me. So sick. Such a diseased pair.

Don't count on it. Everything going bad, the MAGA cult can just blame Biden, and the "lunatic left woke terrorists". It's never their own fault, or their politics' fault.

I am not a yank ! but i can see he is a madman and should be removed he is going senile and draging america down, never really liked yanks low IQ and very arrogant (just my Opinion)but now i feel really sorry for them to have a madman at the helm, they seem to be waking up to the realisation that they have been conned, Tarriffs are taxes example Tariffs are 'excise taxes' a tax imposed on a particular type of good. Tariffs are taxes on consumers in very like the same way that a tax on cars are a tax on consumers. Yes, the car dealership might be the entity required to remit the tax to the government, but the result of the tax is that car prices are higher. So consumers will end up 'paying' some of the tax. Car prices generally won't go up by the full amount of a car tax, but they will go up by some amount. The amount that prices go up by, as a percentage of the tax, is the 'tax burden' on the consumer.

It's disturbing how journalists refer to Trump using his "favourite tool". They make it sound benign and funny that the most dangerous man on the planet with oodles of nukes uses bullying tactics to get his way. If I did that, I'd already be behind bars. More disturbing are those commentators in the thread that advocate for nuking Trump. This idea is just as st***d. Seriously, everyone, grow a brain. We either respect each other and learn to get along or we all go nuts at each other. Something has to give with egomaniacs in all corners of this planet.

Didn't trump reach an trade agreement with the EU back in August 2025?

If my watch is 5 minutes slow during the day, then it is unreliable. If my car breaks down once every month, then it is also unreliable. If golden-blonde Donnie breaks bilateral agreements he has made, what is that? This is not only unreliable, it is catastrophic for the USA and for the entire world. Nobody can rely on the USA and the DOTUS (Dealer of the United States) anymore. A nefarious, treacherous dealmaker rules the USA.
