A 51-year-old man was killed in a knife attack outside a rented room in Bang Pahan district, Ayutthaya, after a confrontation with his partner’s former husband escalated into violence. The suspect fled the scene with his five-year-old daughter but was arrested within hours and has confessed, police said.

The incident occurred at about 7pm on 19 January 2026 in Moo 5, Bang Nang Ra subdistrict. Police identified the victim as Wandi, also known as “Num,” who suffered a severe neck wound and died at the scene despite emergency efforts.

Investigators said the suspect, 41-year-old Nattawat, known as “Yo,” is the ex-husband of the victim’s girlfriend, 29-year-old Sulakkhana. The dispute reportedly began over a debt claim involving a woman named May, a friend of the suspect, which later reignited old tensions related to the couple’s past relationship.

According to Sulakkhana, she had contacted May to recover money owed, but the conversation escalated, with accusations linked to her past relationship with Nattawat. She said the suspect later came to the house and attempted to attack her partner, despite attempts to clarify that the debt issue was unrelated.

A neighbour living opposite the rented room told police he heard shouting and a challenge to come outside before seeing the two men argue and fight with weapons. He said the victim used a 1.5-metre iron bar, while the suspect wielded a knife, urging the suspect to stop and think of his young child before the fatal blow was struck.

Police found the victim’s body near the doorway alongside a bloodstained knife and iron bar, and a Mitsubishi pickup truck parked nearby. After the attack, the suspect rode away on a motorcycle with his daughter, heading towards Asia Road.

Officers from Bang Pahan Police Station tracked and arrested Nattawat at his workplace in Ban Li subdistrict, around six kilometres from the scene. He claimed the victim struck him first with the iron bar, causing him to retaliate with the knife, which he said accidentally struck the victim’s neck.

Daily News reported that Nattawat has been charged with causing bodily harm resulting in death and remains in custody pending further legal proceedings. Police have collected DNA and fingerprint evidence and are continuing the investigation.
