Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) Region 9 is probing a hotel project in Trang province over allegations of public land encroachment and building permit irregularities. State agencies have been ordered to report their findings within 30 days. This follows social media discussions questioning the duties performed by state officials.

The inquiry stems from suspicions raised about the approval process for the hotel in Bang Rak subdistrict. An on-site inspection on January 13, 2026, conducted by officials and NACC representatives, revealed 10 guestroom units and two pool villas. Although the villas were dismantled before the inspection, plans are in place to demolish remaining structures, with a lawyer for the owner stating the site would be restored within 30 days.

Initial investigations showed discrepancies between the issued permit and actual construction, as only eight rooms were officially registered. Investigators noted that the construction wasn't on the land covered by the deed submitted. The NACC has instructed a review of compliance with the Building Control Act of 1979 and other laws.

Officials from relevant local administrations are also tasked with assessing land use and compliance with local and Interior Ministry regulations. NACC Region 9 has sought assistance from the Trang provincial land office to fast-track the investigation. The commission expects all agencies to submit their findings within the stipulated 30 days to move forward, reported Khaosod.

Key Takeaways

  • An NACC probe in Trang province targets public land encroachment and permit issues.

  • Inspectors found structures inconsistent with submitted permits and deeds.

  • Findings from various agencies are expected in 30 days for public disclosure.
