A rubber tapper was left in shock after discovering the body of an unidentified man who had died inside an abandoned row of houses in Chanthaburi province on 21 January 2026, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances of the death. The discovery followed the sighting of a motorcycle hidden in nearby woodland, raising suspicions that led to the grim find. Officers were alerted shortly before midday and secured the area while forensic examinations began.

Police from Mueang Chanthaburi Police Station were called to the scene in Village 5, Ban Kaew Soi 14, Tha Chang sub-district, where a abandoned complex of around 20 units stands in the middle of a rubber plantation. In room number four at the rear of the building, officers found the body of a man believed to be about 30 years old. He was wearing a T-shirt and black tracksuit trousers and had used a green nylon rope to hang himself from a steel roof beam, with both feet still touching the floor.

Inside the room, police found a mobile phone, eyeglasses, sandals and a bottle of white liquor. Outside in the grass, another empty bottle of white liquor was discovered, along with a pink Yamaha Fino motorcycle registered in Chanthaburi, concealed in the forest nearby. A blister pack of painkillers that had been completely consumed was found in the motorcycle’s front storage compartment and photographed as evidence.

The body was discovered by Mr Winai, aged 58, a rubber tapper who told police he had been collecting acid bottles in the area between 05:30 and 06:00 when he noticed the motorcycle hidden in the woods. Finding this suspicious, he walked into the abandoned houses to investigate and was confronted by the body, prompting him to flee and immediately notify police. He added that while youths occasionally gathered in the area, it was rare for anyone to stay overnight, although he had seen the deceased around the area from time to time.

Khoasod reported that Police, led by Pol Lt Col Neramit Phongsalee, Deputy Investigation Inspector, said initial findings suggested the man may have been under accumulated stress. Officers believe he parked the motorcycle out of sight, drank alcohol and consumed painkillers before taking his own life. The body was sent to Phrapokklao Hospital for a detailed post-mortem examination, while police continue checking the motorcycle registration to identify the deceased and contact relatives for further questioning.
