A staged video depicting a mock phone theft on a BTS Skytrain in Thailand has led to widespread criticism online. The clip, shared by a Thai content creator on TikTok, shows an orchestrated scenario where the creator feigns distraction as another individual grabs the phone and runs off. The public backlash focused on concerns that such content could negatively alter the perception of safety in Thailand, particularly among tourists.

The video initially gained attention through Facebook page เจ๊ม้อย v+, which highlighted its potential harm to Thailand’s image in terms of public safety. Many expressed worries that the video might mislead viewers, especially foreign tourists, about the safety of Bangkok's public transport. Comments under the post voiced concerns about the impact on tourism and questioned the intentions behind such content.

Reactions included comments from citizens urging regulation of social media content that could jeopardize societal or national interests. A typical sentiment was, "Bangkok is safe. It's disgraceful to harm the country’s image like this." Another remarked on the responsibility of content creators to set positive examples, especially for the youth.

Following the negative online response, the content creator issued an apology on Instagram. They expressed regret for the video, acknowledging it was made thoughtlessly and emphasized that it was not intended to harm Thailand’s reputation or the transport company. Although the creator promised not to make similar content in the future, some viewers remained sceptical about the sincerity of the apology, considering the viral nature of the video, reported The Thaiger.
