Police from The Crime Suppression Division have arrested a high-profile murder suspect who had been on the national wanted list for more than four years, ending a prolonged manhunt with the help of Big Data identity check system. The suspect, wanted for a fatal stabbing in Songkhla and carrying a reward of 100,000 baht, was detained in Loei province after initially providing a false name and having no identification documents.

The arrest took place on 26 January 2026, when officers from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and Crime Suppression Division Sub-Division 6 apprehended Mr Durong Loisakorn, 58, also known as “Kool”, a resident of Bang Klam district, Songkhla. He was captured on a public roadside in front of the Loei Provincial Court in Mueang Loei district, after his true identity was confirmed through national Big Data systems.

The case dates back to the night of 7 November 2020, when Mr Durong allegedly stabbed Mr Wong to death with a pig-slaughtering knife in front of a house in Sathon subdistrict, Nathawi district, Songkhla. Police said the attack followed an argument after Mr Durong invited the victim to drink beer inside his house, which the victim declined, saying, “Let’s drink in front of the house instead, otherwise we’ll argue again.” Mr Wong managed to ride his motorcycle around 600 metres before collapsing and dying from his injuries, while the suspect fled and left the knife at the scene.

Following the killing, the Nathawi Provincial Court issued an arrest warrant on 8 November 2020 for murder. Mr Durong was later placed on the Royal Thai Police wanted list at number 225, with a reward of 100,000 baht and had evaded capture by moving between provinces and using false identities. He also had a prior criminal record as a principal offender for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The breakthrough came when Na Duang Police Station officers in Loei raided an illegal hi-lo gambling ring and detained nine suspects. One middle-aged man had no identification and gave a false name, prompting suspicion when his details could not be found in the civil registration system. Crime Suppression officers were contacted to run a Big Data biometric and identity check, which revealed he was Mr Durong.

Daily News reported that during initial questioning, Mr Durong confessed to the killing and admitted to years of evading arrest. In addition to the murder charge, he faces further offences for lying to officials and providing false information, carrying penalties of fines and possible imprisonment, before being transferred to Sathon Police Station in Songkhla for further legal proceedings.

Sounds like a lucky arrest based on a chance encounter. But credit to the cops for following up when they could have just not bothered. Actually sound police work, so thumbs up.

Shoot, arrested at an illegal gambling den.

So it sounds like was turning over a new leaf.
