China has delivered humanitarian assistance worth 10 million yuan to Thailand to support civilians affected by fighting along the Thai–Cambodian border, with distribution to be coordinated by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM). The first shipment arrived on Friday, 30 January 2026, with a second delivery scheduled for Sunday, 1 February 2026, providing essential supplies for displaced and affected communities.

The aid was formally received at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Samut Prakan province, where Thailand designated the Minister of Defence as head of the Thai delegation for the handover ceremony. The assistance is intended to be distributed directly to affected border populations through the Ministry of Interior, ensuring immediate relief during the ongoing security situation.

The humanitarian support follows recent clashes along the Thai–Cambodian border that have disrupted civilian life and prompted emergency assistance needs. In response, the government of the People’s Republic of China expressed its intention to support Thailand with relief supplies to mitigate hardship among affected residents. The assistance is valued at 10 million yuan and has been transported via two chartered commercial flights.

According to Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul assigned General Natthaphon Narkphanit, Minister of Defence, to preside over the Thai side of the ceremony. China was represented by Mr Zhang Jianwei, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Thailand, who formally handed over the aid on behalf of his government.

The first shipment, delivered on flight CK277 on Friday, 30 January 2026, consisted of five categories of relief items. These included 10,000 blankets, 400 folding beds, 4,000 mosquito nets, 8,000 electric fans, and 15,000 winter jackets, packed into a total of 8,888 boxes. The second shipment, scheduled for flight CK273 on Sunday, 1 February 2026, will include 3,600 folding beds, 4,000 mattresses, 36,000 mosquito nets and 4,900 household tool kits, totalling 3,150 boxes.

During the event, both sides also exchanged views on broader humanitarian cooperation and disaster management. Thailand expressed appreciation for China’s past technical expertise and academic recommendations following the 8.2-magnitude earthquake along the Sagaing Fault in Myanmar in March 2025, which enhanced Thailand’s disaster preparedness. Thailand also thanked China for supporting capacity-building for DDPM personnel and for cooperation under the ASEAN–China framework, including the ASEAN–China Centre for Emergency Management Cooperation.

Naewna reported that the Thai government confirmed that the Ministry of Interior, through the DDPM, will oversee the transport and distribution of all donated items to affected border provinces. Authorities stated that the assistance will be used to alleviate hardship and maximise benefits for impacted communities. Both governments reaffirmed their commitment to continued humanitarian cooperation.
