A/C Installation

Can anybody tell me how much a typical air conditioning installation costs 12000/13000 BTU per room. Thanks.

It's a "how long is a piece of string question. Just to replace an existing, about B1,500

Are the evaporator/inside units going to be mounted on the inside of an exterior wall?

Wiil the condenser/outside units be mounted on the outside of the same exterior wall?

Is the electrical service already in place?

Are the drains already in place?

Are you replacing existing units?

Are the units to be on the ground floor?

Condo or house?

Replace existing means they take the old one out and replace with the new unit, and use the existing electric and drain and condenser mounting brackets. If you buy from HomePro or Modern Air, this type of installation is often "free".

New installation needs to have the electrical service run, and a drain needs to be installed. The drain is for the condensate/water the is removed from the air.

How far is your electrical panel/consumer unit from the AC locations, and do you have two extra breakers or space for two new breakers?

It will be a new installation. Sorry I don't know all the details. I was enquiring on behalf of somebody else. They quoted figures that seemed very high, not that I have any idea of what the installation should cost. The quoted cost to install 12000/13000 BTU between 35,000 and 42000 baht. Bearing in mind in the UK I can buy a 12000BTU A/C for 22400 baht, just all the parts installation on top then the Thai price seems very high. UK will include 20% VAT. I am guessing the basic equipment in Thailand is cheaper anyway, much larger market. Talking near on a thousand pounds to buy and install an air conditioner, I don't believe it.

Where are you?

Just order from HomePro or Modern Air.

A new 12,200 Carrier Copper 11 inverter with wifi B14,900 installed. the electric is extra.

Again, how far is your electrical panel/consumer unit from the AC locations, and do you have two extra breakers or space for two new breakers?

If you do not have enough power, and need a new service, that can cost quite a bit.

I am in the UK but going to stay in Pathom Thani. The house has no A/C at present or so I understand. The house owner offered to install A/c at the prices I mentioned. But given the prices quoted it seems a rip off.

In Pattaya installation job ( or moving an existing one to new location) 1500-2000 depending on how easy or difficult the location.

Aircon prices then another story, big variation depending on brand model and where you buy.

I am in a new to me home and we are installing all new AC.

Three 3-phase ceiling cassettes, one 60,000BTU and two 38,500BTU with wifi capable wired remotes

Three single phase 18,000BTU with wifi capable wireless remotes

Installation will be about 80,000 baht

The unit prices are 40% off list

I am seeing quotes of 30,000 baht for a single unit which seems very expensive

Do you have two extra breakers or space for two new breakers?

Do you even have enough power to increase the size of your panel?

If you need a new meter and larger service, 30K is a bargain.

You are not providing enough information to get a realistic idea of what it should cost.

I don't actually know the details, I am not in Thailand at the moment. It may well be that the price is reasonable. All I know it is a new build house in one of these villages. I will be very surprised if there was not provision for the inclusion. There again it is Thailand so I should absolutely expect the provision for A/C has not been included in the build. If 30,000 is not unreasonable at least I have something to go on.

Most A/C guys are reluctant to install only.

These guys make more money selling the air-conditioning unit plus installation.

The margin on the units from list is typically 35-55%, that's why they give "free" installation.

Hi @Yellowtail I was going to start a new thread but have just come across your comment above. Just a general question really. Do you recommend Carrier inverter aircon as a good brand? We are about to purchase two new units and my Mrs is saying that Carrier is the way to go. Her sister just had a unit cleaned and the chap that did it said Carrier is becoming more and more popular.

Any thoughts/comments? Recommendations on model (both for average size bedrooms)? Thank you.

Yes, I think Carrier is a good/great brand, and they are fighting for market share, so their prices are lower, and warranties are better than Daiken and Mitsu.

Do you would or rent and is budget a significant concern?

How cool do you like it?

I like the four-way cassette units, and they have a lot of benefits over the wall units, but they are pricey.

I like the Carrier XPower ceiling cassettes and the Carrier Copper 11 wall units.

I would go for the ~18,000 BTU units. People recommend smaller units, but they have to work harder, and larger units bump you up to a twin rotary compressor.

Thank you for your reply - very helpful.

It is purchase of a new (to us) house. Currently 2 very old units which need replacing. Will then probably add additional units in other rooms whilst redecorating etc. Budget not really a concern but would much prefer wall mounted units a a straight replacement for the existing old units. Hopefully, this would not involve any or very little 'building' work.

Standard bedroom use really - maybe 20c on the odd hot day/night but most likely around the 26c mark on average. Would you still recommend the unit you mention above or would the 11,000 unit be adequate?

Thanks again.

Not looking to 'steal' your thread @Geoff914 😁

@Yellowtail clearly seems to know what he is talking about so just looking for a bit of advice on which make/model to install. Looks like Carrier for me.

How old is the house and what is your electrical service?

How big are the rooms?

I'm a Mitsubishi fan, 10 units in, running at 3 different houses (7 - 7 - 3+ years), and ran, running flawless.

Carrier is good, as daughter's townhouse has one, and about 4 yrs, of flawless running.

I am currently overseas so dealing from memory and messages with the Mrs. House only 5 years old (modern gated estate type Property with surrounding houses) so electrical installation is up to scratch (and running the current air con units with no issues - they are just a bit tatty and probably never been serviced).

One bedroom 4.5mx4.5m, the other around 3mx4m

Small edit on room size

Five-year-old units likely do not need to be replaced.

I would go 18,000 for the big room and 12,000 for the small room.

TCLs are great value, mine are 2 years old and whisper quiet.

As for installation, depends if buying through the installer. I bought on Shopee, i asked 4 AC companies and they quoted 3,000 to 4,000
