You must tell the DWP of any change in circumstances, which I guess, a move to Thailand would be. Then they would say, sorry, no increases.

Or what?

In a few years time I'll be getting my UK state pension and will also declare myself living in Thailand. It's hard to believe they are still using 150 year-old methods to communicate around the globe

You best get used to it. Dwp and HMRC both issue letters which take weeks to arrive (usuallya month). Dwp will engage with you by email. It's a very slow process to sort out any issue with them. I th

No increase in Pension payments, and a demand you repay what you were not entitled to, and can can persue a Court Order to make you repay it. They can also withold payments under certain circumstance, but must leave you with enough to live on. (Perplexity helped with this)

I think if you are maintaining a uk address and receiving your payment in a uk bank, I don't think it's necessary to tell DWP you are overseas - but all correspondence will go to the uk address. You may of course want to receive your payment in to your Thai bank which is possible.

If he keeps his UK address he will avoid a frozen pension, but if he is found out he will have to repay all excess above the frozen amount he has received. It is an offence to give false information so there could be fines too.

I have never given my government false information.

Although I might have forgotten to notify of some changes.

Of course you have if you say you still live in UK.

I guess it's like Sturgeon's hubby forget to tell Nicola about the stuff he bought. 555

They've never asked me where I currently live.

And I've never volunteered the information.

Last time they asked was around 2005 when I opened my gov gateway.

When I lived in the UK.

Exactly the same here. But we ARE breaking the Law.

is this true? I mean is it true? Seems as if another load of codfish.or is it someone ranting on a subject it is ignoramus of

You do see , and hopefully you do ,there are two types living in Thailand/Canada or elsewhere that are supposedly "frozen" Those "frozen" (bitter and twisted ),and those "unfrozen" happy and ,lets say a bit more wealthy than being " frozen"

If however you are stating bunkum it maybe unnerving to those making a decision, ie to go thru IPC or tread their own path thru DWP for their OAP

As you state "repay all in excess, fines too " goodness ,somebody is bitter and twisted here today ,lol, but no,you are most definitely and I say it most definitely of you> yourself not being right but wrong again. Try it in another publication, where others cannot spot your mistake.

Is this right, and I do mean (again) is it right? The actual "law" no waffling on mind ,no bunkum smokescreen, just the actual LAW

Thanking You

Waste of time keeping regurgitating, what if you did not have to repay anything? what if you were entitled to it? what if there was no "getting caught" What if the IPC were making their own rules as they go, ? what if the IPC will not give you the answers to any of the foregone? what if the IPC were there only to feather their own nest? sorta jobs for the boys and girls? what if the IPC were without any powers at all? what if there was no laws hidden or unhidden to stop anyone receiving unfrozen, go on quote me or show me anything specific that does show anything, and if the two balloon heads above can show me anything or anybody even remotely with a criminal /civil attachment to the underlying theme...please do

What if, what if, and who is IPC please?

The DWP only send Life Certificates to those who have foreign addresses. If you still use a UK one, fine, but it is still AGAINST THE LAW to receive UK State Pension if you live in THailand, amongst other countries, which you can look up yourself.

Notable countries where the UK state pension is frozen include:

  • Australia

  • Canada

  • New Zealand

  • South Africa

  • India

  • Thailand

  • Malaysia

  • All African countries (except Mauritius)

  • Most Caribbean nations (e.g., Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, Grenada—excluding Barbados and Jamaica)

  • Most of the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America (e.g., China, Japan, Argentina, Brazil)

The Philippines is not frozen due to a reciprocal agreement with the UK. Also, US, Israel, Turkey and EEA countries among others.

According to Gemini, based on the UK.GOV website, if the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) discovers you provided false information about your UK residency to bypass a frozen state pension, it is treated as benefit fraud. Penalties include repaying all overpaid funds, financial penalties, benefit suspensions, and potential criminal prosecution.

I suppose you could plead ignorance and that you did not know you had to report where you were living, but would still likely have to repay any excess amount you had above the frozen threshold.

So am I talking bo11ocks or is that just you?

They've never taken anyone to court because they're not sure they would win.

But have they ever with held money from someone living in say Thailand, or the other couties in the list quoted above?

Should with held be hyphenated or double H? Here's the Grammar/Spelling Police asking, hahahah. 555

Not once.

A couple of pensioners allegedly caved under threats and made voluntary repayments. (As claimed by Transam, who wasn't trustworthy)

But not one court case, ever suggested or reported.

I sometimes think 'my time is at hand' (Fire & Rain, James Taylor, brilliant man), then wake up see my Mrs and Grandson and all is OK. At 78, lived a hard musician's/hotelier's life, but still alive and kicking. Cheers.

Nobody "caved in" couple of suckers got together and contacted IPC about the goings on of unfrozen in Thailand, convinced them of their wrongdoings ,producing a letter from them of a fine of £250 quid, ( how jealous could anyone be) paid it and continued frozen, Transam victory of sorts.

No punishment, paybacks, reduced pension,so there it is. Frozen should stay frozen accept it like good chaps, and stop intimidating the unfrozen and those deciding what not to do

Seems odd that there have never been any court cases then.

Fraud usually ends up in court (if the 'defrauded' think they can win).

Perhaps, because people cough up when found out rather than allowing the matter to proceed to court.

The unreliability of the postal service in my location - Pattaya Dark Side - does cause considerable problems when it comes to the non-delivery of important documents. My occupational pension from the UKAEA is currently under suspension because the request for a Life Certificate (every two years) was not delivered. At least you can contact them by email, unlike the DWP, so the resolution does not depend on snail mail or international phone calls. The situation should be rectified shortly - I just hope that they are not going to send another request by snail mail as I would likely not receive it - again!! I do have an blank copy of the 2023 form that I could send (filled out) but the format may well have changed.

This prompted me to think about the DWP angle. I did a cert. for them in April 2025 so either I am OK for another year or another one is probably already overdue!

The suspension of my UKAEA pension is getting rather bizarre now. Having not received the Life Cert request that was sent by snail mail I managed to get them to send a blank form as a password protected ZIP archive. No problem with that - I unzipped the archive, printed the form, filled it out, signed it, scanned it and tried to return it to them as a PDF attachment. This is where it all goes wrong. No confirmation of receipt for several days so I phoned them and was told that they had not received it! I did not get a 'failed delivery' notification to my IN Box so the message was almost certainly delivered. UKAEA had no explanation and just suggested that I resend the message. I did this - from my usual email account and from an alternative, with the attachment as a PDF and as a JPG and even as a password protected PDF. No record of anything being received! Thinking that their email system might be having problems with attachments I even sent a plain message with no attachments. Still not received! Something weird is going on and I don't think that it's a problem with my system as I can send/receive emails, with attachments, to other parties with no issues. It's almost as though UKAEA has blacklisted my email addresses for some unknown reason.

I have given up and have now sent them the form by registered airmail. I was intending to use EMS but, allegedly, this does not work with PO Box addresses and that is the only contact address that I have for them. Registered airmail to UK apparently takes about two weeks. I have a tracking number so I can follow the progress - or maybe lack of it. Currently, it's made it as far as the Sri Racha Mail Centre. Living in hope that it doesn't disappear into the Heathrow Langley Mail Centre black hole!
