A fire broke out at Bangkok's Chatuchak Weekend Market on Monday night, destroying 28 stalls. Authorities suggest an electrical short circuit as the likely cause. This incident marks the second fire at the market within days, initially reported at 10:24 pm near Gate 1.

Emergency teams, including ten fire engines, police, and volunteers, arrived swiftly to combat the blaze. The firefighting efforts lasted about 30 minutes, successfully bringing the fire under control without any injuries. Initial signs of a burning smell were detected by the market's security team, who traced it to a shop in soi 9/2 and attempted to extinguish it before calling the fire department.

The damaged stalls cover approximately 240 square meters, affecting three streets in Market Project 17. The interconnected design of the single-storey steel structures facilitated the rapid spread of the fire. Market head of security, Kiattisak Sukraj, confirmed the suspected cause was an electrical short circuit.

This recent blaze follows a similar incident on Saturday where a brief fire, also linked to an electrical short, damaged security cameras but was contained by guards. These incidents raise concerns and suggest a need for improved electrical safety measures to prevent future occurrences.

Looking forward, authorities will likely investigate to ensure more safety protocols are implemented. Regular maintenance and checks on electrical systems at the market may become more stringent to prevent repeat incidents. There will be an emphasis on enhancing the market's overall safety infrastructure to assure vendors and shoppers of their safety, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways

  • A fire at Chatuchak destroyed 28 stalls, likely due to an electrical short circuit.

Oh, yeah! Again! Seem like that´s the burning market of Thailand. How would it be to check everything and get up to standard. They have something called IP standard for electric. Time to get up to speed.
