Since I was going to Thailand, she said they know about the problem, but if I was heading for another destination, she would tell me to get a emergency passport if I wanted to board the flight.

What nation?!?

I hate the stapling. I always remove things that they staple and use paper clips instead. Could you be more specific about the problem?

Was it just staple holes (bad enough) or had a page ripped badly when it was removed (easy enough to happen)? Also was it on a page that might be needed for a stamp or was it a mostly empty passport with the holed pages near the back?

It was in Norway, and it was on the clean first pages she reacted about. I have Staple holes all over the used pages as well.

I read something earlier on this firum about it, but didn't pay attention to it then, and couldn't find the tread by forum search.

Staple holes in a passport from official documents (visas, entry cards) are generally considered minor, normal, and not damage, especially if they are on visa pages. While some authorities technically consider any perforation as damage, small, existing staple holes rarely invalidate a passport for travel.

  • Official Use: Embassies and immigration officials frequently staple documents, such as Japanese re-entry permits or U.S. visa documents, directly into passports.

  • Removal: It is often best to leave the staples

Some dumbass idoit visa agent made a smallish rough 0.5-1cm hole in my passport from tearing out a staple....<deleted> dumb <deleted> made me so mad, hasn't come to anything yet because its in the back but it could cost a whole holiday in future because of him

Yeah I consider the removal of stapled items the more risky part of this problem. If not done carefully, more serious tearing damage can be done.

She was mostly concerned about the staples holes in at the empty first pages. I still have my 90 days attached at he last pages, and plenty holes after staples throughout the passport.

I have never had an issue in pointing this out to immigration officer.

In future don't allow it.

It's a bad habit some io have picked up.

I think you're kind of naive on this issue.

I'm humbly asking to stay in their country and I'm going to make a big scene and tell them how to do their job?!? That is asking for a bigger problem than stapler holes.

Nonsense

Use paper clips, keep enough for the 90day receipt, tm30 and a couple extra.

There is zero necessity to keep 90 receipt or TM30 with pp.

Nor TM6 (when previously it existed)

I got denied boarding 3 years ago by Thai Vietjet to return to Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi from Vietnam because a "Thai staple hole" became a slight tear on page 16 of my passport.

Opal boarded the flight with our luggage.

Thai Air Asia accepted the document and put me on a flight to Don Mueang scheduled for 5 hours later.

The "jolly girls" at Don Mueang were almost laughing hysterically, when I explained my lack of a smile, as they stamped me through.

I agree, they do it then give your passport back sometimes the next day

Of course not. Though the Thai IO doesn’t staple recipes in foreign passports while the foreign passport holders are outside of the country.

Years ago, an IO at Buriram put a plastic sleeve over the last page of my passport and placed my TM6, TM30 & TM47 inside it. No more staples for me.

Both 90 day report and Notification of Reporting Address are always stapled into my passport here in Samui. Sometimes also blue payment receipts for extension and re-entry permit are stapled in the back as well.

I bought some plastic passport sleeves from Lazada, and fitted one hoping they would put them in there, but no, they were still stapled in.

So my report of my experience at Jomtien immigration for decades is nonsense.

I guess all the passport staple holes in the back of my passports done when I wasn't there to say anything about it are imaginary.

This forum can be so useful to ferret out hallucinations.

I would have never known otherwise!

Be careful there buddy.

Apparently we're being told that such stapling and the resulting holes in our passports are hallucinations!

That's one immigration office and does things in the Jomtiem way.

Fortunately not typical.

Ditto.

I have two small plastic covered paper clips attached to the last page of my passport to attach Arrival Card, 90 day report, and change of address advisory.

Never stated that.

What I stated is that there should be no items (eg TM47 receipt etc) stapled into passport.

The fact that an office has that practice is just down to bad habit.

For others where the passports are not held, suggest if the io starts to staple your pp, politely request that not be done.
