It's around 15k for using agent and their financials, other people with financials that go through the agent pay about 8k, what does 3500 get you?

Sorry, I misunderstood - financials - I just checked, the guy I used charge 1000B to use his credit card. I posted his name earlier, I dont think I need to advertise, most people know who he is.

I don't understand why people pay an agent when it's so easy, plus you keep your passport unlike with an agent

  • Yes, the cart is a good option. I have been to this place before last year getting my wife her UK visa. Horrible memory as we ate at the food court in central beforehand and my own passpprt fell out o

Ahh, ok, fair play.

Yes, the price of the UK passport included - you need to use a UK credit card, Thai debit cards aren't accepted, or are at least problematic, so the advice is not to use. The agent I used offers the use of his cc for a thousand baht - but the passport is what? give or take 100 quid - 5-6K THB? (idk) then someone is making some good coin! The guy I used in Chiang Mai is really popular. 3500THB gets him to act as knowledge base, check your documents before you send to him, taking it to VFS and return registered postage.

ETS: I just checked again .. it was 2x payments, sorry, one was 3500 and an initial 1500 = 5000THB, still 3K less.

Card payment address supposed to match delivery address, or payment may be refused (UK banking regs).

So you should use a card with the same address as your application and DL (if used as proof of address)

As far as I know.

The HMPO guidence doesn't mention any restrictions on card.

Obviously BKB will be problematic as TPN pretending to be Mastercard.

Back to trying to get a passport photo.

Had one taken in town earlier, 120bht, size of face bloody wrong!

Now trying to make my own using idphoto4u.com ....... grrrr ...........

Thanks for this. I will be using a UK credit card for payment, which is registered to my UK address that I have used on the application form.

I trust this will be acceptable

Hope so,

Went through the photo madness this morning.

Official photographer, 120bht, photo right size, crown to chin too small at 26mm (29-34 required)

Tried online idphoto4u, then printed locally, exactly the same problem. But the little old guy (must stop saying that, I was probably older than him) adjusted everything to give a 32mm crown to chin which I hope is perfect (100bht).

Colour photos of passport, DL, 3 PDF files for VFS appointment, Hmpo application, HMPO payment done easily for a total of 222bht.

Now busy filling in the paperwork for VFS to check.

I hate pointless paperwork, why do they need all my details again, can't they just use their records from my old passport?

They don't, you know you only have to complete 2-3 parts? not much at all

I have just posted a new topic outlining my experience with renewing my UK passport if anyone is interested

Card payment does NOT have to match the delivery address (which is actually VfS)..... card payment details need to match the 'registered' address for that card.

Correct, and the payment card doesn't even have to be the passport applicant's own payment card (I paid for my grown-up son's passport renewal using my UK bank card).

I renewed my passport several times at the embassy. My only memories of it are:

Going in to the embassy and gurkhas on security.

Going through the downstairs area, people there for visa interviews, guys in singlets and shorts with thai girlfriends (😄), people arguing with embassy staff.

Upstairs to the quiet of passport applications.

Yes !!! There was an unshaven bloke with a string vest and his moll last time I renewed my passport there back in the 1980's.

The Gurkas had to remove him !!!!

Just got a new P/P. Paid with UK Mastercard as my Kasikorn card was declined. Agent said payment had to be in Sterling. No point in arguing with her. Nothing mntioned about registered address fro card. Card address is only relevent for items bought n line and deliverd; only to registered address.

Photos; HMPO has strict requirements for photos. My first photo, bougth at UK photographer, was rejected. Another photo taken locally in Phayao accepted. Detailed requirements available fordown load on HMPO web-site.

Maybe best to use photo service at AfS

I have an appointment at VFS in Bangkok this week to renew my UK passport.

Just checking I have all my ducks in a row with anyone who has done this recently.

The documents I will be taking are as follows :

1) Current passport

2) Full colour copy of passport

3) Completed application form

4) Two colour photographs to the correct specifications

5) Printed appointment letter

6) Payment mandate form

7 ) Yellow housebook with printed English translation ( proof of address )

Have I missed anything vital ?

Thanks in advance

I have a yellow book and the address in Thai?

Can anyone understand this? I pay for stuff in Sterling using a KBank Credit Card all the time?

I can understand it because I have seen this happen in several earlier threads.

I cannot remember the reason but I would guess it is Visa/Mastercard related.

I would never us a Thai bank card for payments for passport renewal.

When I have helped expats with renewals I have used my UK card if they don't have one.

Ironically - the last time I renewed my passport I complained about the financial security of having to write down my my credit-card details and 3 digit security code on a piece of paper that was going to be posted to the UK (UK Credit Card).

I asked why in 2025 that there wasn't an online secure portal through which to make payment.

About 3 weeks later I received an e-mail from HMPO stating they could not process my payment and directed me to an online portal to make a secure payment !!!

Also - I find it much easier to fill out forms etc on PDF editors than handwriting them.

Nope - VFS would not accept my 'typed' version (handwritten signature) - it had to be handwritten so I had to re-write the renewal application there and then.
