The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has reactivated its Metrobase 136 hotline to assist motorists involved in minor road crashes and traffic-related incidents. MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III announced the development at a press briefing, emphasizing that the new system promises quicker response times, with operators answering within five minutes. This initiative aims to address traffic congestion and reduce road rage incidents caused by prolonged disputes.

The hotline 136 has been operational for years, but its recent reactivation focuses on increasing public awareness and improving response efficiency. The reformatted system facilitates seamless coordination between the MMDA command center and field responders, making it easier for motorists to receive timely assistance. Upon receiving a report, Metrobase personnel will review CCTV footage of the incident while dispatching a traffic enforcer to the scene.

Once on site, MMDA constables will provide a digital copy of the incident's CCTV footage to the involved parties via their social media accounts. This measure intends to resolve disputes rapidly and minimize traffic disruptions. The five-minute response policy is enforced on all public roads and highways monitored by the MMDA, including radial and circumferential routes.

With the improved hotline system, authorities hope to alleviate congestion and prevent road-related altercations. Experts believe that faster response times will enhance traffic management and promote safer roads in Metro Manila. By providing real-time evidence to motorists, the MMDA seeks to foster cooperation and avoid unnecessary escalation.

Looking ahead, the MMDA plans to continue refining its response strategies and will evaluate the system's effectiveness in improving traffic flow and handling minor incidents. Motorists are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the hotline to benefit from its reactivation and contribute to smoother traffic management, reported Philstar.
