US lawmakers question Trump’s Iran strategy

U.S. lawmakers from both political parties say the Trump administration has not outlined a clear “day-after” strategy for Iran following joint U.S.–Israeli strikes that killed much of the country’s leadership, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The strikes, carried out on Saturday, have plunged Iran into political uncertainty and intensified debate in Washington over the next phase of U.S. policy in the Middle East. President Donald Trump has suggested that regime change could follow if the Iranian people rise up after decades under the Islamic Republic. However, members of Congress say they have yet to see a concrete plan for what happens next.

Republican lawmakers largely supported the military action but acknowledged uncertainty about the outcome. Senator Tom Cotton, chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said there was “no simple answer” about what comes next for Iran. Senator Lindsey Graham also backed Trump’s position, arguing the Iranian people should determine their country’s future without U.S. occupation.

Despite differing political views, lawmakers across the aisle agreed that deploying U.S. ground troops to Iran would be unacceptable. Democrats, however, expressed deeper scepticism about whether air strikes alone could trigger meaningful political change.

Senator Chris Coons warned that historical examples suggest regime change rarely happens through air power alone. Intelligence assessments cited by lawmakers indicated that hardline figures within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps could ultimately replace Khamenei.

The conflict is already producing wider geopolitical and economic effects. Strikes and Iranian retaliation have disrupted shipping routes, aviation and global energy markets, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz — a vital corridor for global oil supply.

The U.S. military confirmed that three American service members were killed and five seriously wounded in the first casualties linked to the ongoing operations against Iran.

Democrats also questioned the legal basis for the strikes. Senator Mark Warner said the administration presented no intelligence showing an imminent Iranian threat before the attack, calling it a “war of choice.”

With tensions escalating, lawmakers say the biggest questions remain unresolved: who will lead Iran, whether the country could descend into instability or civil war, and how deeply the United States may become involved in another Middle East conflict.

Key Takeaways

  • U.S. lawmakers say the Trump administration has not presented a clear post-strike strategy for Iran.

  • Both Republicans and Democrats oppose sending U.S. ground troops into Iran.

  • Strikes and retaliation are already disrupting global shipping, aviation and oil markets.

So what, why would you think they wouldn't ? Its part of their job.
Certainly not new worthy. lol

Trump had a cunning plan, as usual.

And where is our little Cambodian delusional MAGA member, who claimed it would be over quickly?

In a brief interview with the New York Times on Sunday, Trump said the assault on Iran could last “four or five weeks” and called on Iran’s generals to either hand power to the nation’s people or embrace a model similar to Venezuela, whose new leader has been compliant with US demands after the ouster of Nicolas Maduro.

“What we did in Venezuela, I think, is the perfect, the perfect scenario,” Trump told the newspaper. He added that he had “three very good choices” to lead Iran, without elaborating. Trump later told ABC News that the initial attack “was so successful it knocked out most of the candidates,” adding: “it’s not going to be anybody that we were thinking of because they are all dead.”

Trump can only come up with concepts of a plan, Petey is too stupis, Vance too much of a coward. So who thought this up at Heritage Foundation, the foundation of White supremacy?
