Ouch. That's rough--especially since she just casually went with another customer in front of you. That's gotta hurt. But I wouldn't listen too much to the cynics who say they're all the same and only out for the money. I've been coming to Thailand (and Pattaya) for 25 years on a regular basis and also speak Thai fluently. Sure, the girls come to Pattaya for work, but that doesn't mean they're all manipulative liars. The guys who say this have either had their hearts broken too many times (and who hasn't ever experienced heartbreak in Pattaya?) or are so distrustful that they never learn much about manhy of the women who come here to work. So the answer to both of your questions is "yes" and I think everyone on this thread would agree: Yes, we've all had similar experiences, and yes, most of the girst in Pattaya are either freelancers or working in a bar, massage parlor, or go-go. This girl probably assumed you knew that, and, frankly, you shouldn't have been surprised. But so what, she's a freelancer? That doesn't mean she's incapable of falling in love or committing herself to a farang. But I'd stay away from this one since she dissed you in the most rough way possible.

Had a Thai “Girlfriend” bartender, I regularly visited for about a year, thought ‘she was the one’ one of the male managers told me she was single but had a kid to support, turns out that guy was her husband and the kid was his as well…she would pop into my bungalow in old Na Glua for daytime romps, always excuses why she couldn't move in with me…..….dunno how money I spent on her in a year, it was a lot, but that took the wind out of my sail on trusting Thai Chicks in Pattaya for a looong time. You think Big C or Lotus salary of around 12,000 baht a month will cover the living costs food, clothing etc. for 2.

Most of these mothers come from villages 80km or further from the city, now she must relocate, find an apartment pay rent, electric and water.

It's usually it's around 5,000 baht per month for the baby's grandmother to take care, while mother works away from home.

You must also do the same, think about the big picture and not the small circle of Thai life you probably move in.

There are very many thousands of people working here in Phuket who have relocated from other parts of Thailand, if they can do it so can these types of girls but they take the fast track to money route as it seems to be in their genes.

Most of the people who are in 'normal jobs are from Southern Thailand and from a lot further away than the arbitrary 80kms you stated for whatever reason.

99% of the girls working in girly bars are from Isaan, that is a fact well established over the decades.

My own partner of 20 years also moved to Phuket from South Thailand, she shared a room with other people to start with, then later she could afford to rent a room of her own.

After a few years she set up her own tourist counter selling tours and made a packet, bought houses etc which are rented out and now does not need to work anymore.

She did not have the give me, give me, give me attitude the bar girls have, guys who fall for their tried and tested sorries are bigger fools than they realise, I have come across so many who fell for it, I stay away from such types of people as they have a very limited view of what Thai women are all about.

The maths was explained to me by a lady I met on thaifriendly - a young good looking girl who has had a modest education and with a child to support that is looked after by her mother full time. Girl has to support child and help mother too as the Thai father is long gone. The girl can work in a factory all day - work a 12 hour shift and earn about 650 baht gross for the day if she is lucky - or pleasure a falang from a bar and earn 2000 to 3000 a time. The choice is made often , not always of course, out of economic necessity

My ex girlfriend worked at Electronics factory's and Lotus's.

Her gross daily wage was never more than 400 baht per day.
