As I topped up my car with 200 baht's worth of fuel at 6.30 am, I saw a guy taking about a dozen 2-litre plastic containers from the flatbed of his pickup.

Apparently Thailand has gasoline arbitrageurs. According to my caddie, they buy petrol or diesel at 35 baht/litre, then sell in the villages for 55-60 baht/litre

Where the oil originates from to make the petrol would probably be amputating their right hand.

The government could put a stop to this by decreeing only a tank, which is integrated into a vehicle, can be served. I guess they are asleep at the wheel.

i am currently on a road trip and keep seeing all the lines of cars at the petrol stations. i have to hold myself back from stopping to ask if something is free here or why these lines are so long ... 555

Apparently fighting is breaking out in some districts when drivers try to jump queues.

It's not rocket science, get there at 6 am and there are only one or two cars at the pumps.

Where I am Diesel is always out when I pass by and I've seen people with barrels in the back of their pickups. It's 50km from the next gas station so people are hoarding and bringing it back their villages.

It's apocalyptic here now. Forest fires and has fuel shortages.

The stations around here only start pumping at 8:30 the 10 days so showing up at 6 am to save an hour seems silly. Many do though... Kinda like showing up at immigration at 6am to save an hour.

my father in law got 100L the other day, and we got full tank and two smaller reserves yesterday, so now all set until I leave and wife going back home. But honestly, it was long lines some places waiting for the announced truck coming, most places shut down, and we just happened to pass one with diesel and no que at all. Lucky

And we have been one trip to Korat and one to Chaiyaphum the last days, and both times we just happened to pass one without any line at all, but the prices is of course higher than the other pumps around.

Capitalism at work :) I bet you happily paid the premium. Farmers around here would gladly pay a 20% premium of it weeded out those that really didn't need gas and could just adjust. Many lease the land and most of it is paid upfront. Not a fun place to be!

Nonsense. I've been critical of some foreign policy but never hated America. I think you have had a few decent presidents on the global stage, Obama for one. I was critical of some of his actions, but in general he was an excellent ambassador.
