What's your Status on Fuel (petrol, diesel) in your area?

The "shortage" is only at the pumps at the moment, and is purely due to consumer panic. Oil companies provide regular road tanker deliveries to their stations based on normal weekly / monthly demand. When a mob of people flood said stations demanding they fill jerry cans, and top up their vehicles every time the tank drops by a few Litres, then the stations use up their supply very quickly. It's exactly like the great toilet paper shortage in the West during Covid, or a run on a bank, that has enough money for regular daily activity, but nowhere near enough if everyone wanted to withdraw their money at once.

Hopefully, once the next round of deliveries have been made (PTT in this area are saying around the end of the month), enough people will be sitting on full jerry cans and fuel tanks that things will revert to some normality, though, given human stupidity, I won't be holding my breath. If the supply chain issue isn't resolved by around June, then we will likely be looking at a real shortage.

In Buriram, a lot of smaller stations are totally empty, as are most PT ones. PTT seem to be doing better, but there were long queues for diesel at the local station when I went to put 500 Baht worth of E20 in the car yesterday. Luckily, the front row of pumps sell premium diesel - which was all gone for some reason, and E20, so no one was waiting at that one. I was able to cut in front, fill the tank and be gone in about the usual time.

Luckily my local Bangchak has not aplied the 500B restriction to E85.

I guess it is not very popular.

  • Diesel is more fuel efficient, and gives higher torque for those who need to carry loads. We have a pick up for the farm, great for long drives as well loading up weight for transport.

I can understand banning people filling jerry cans or containers - that actually makes sense because it stops hoarding. But limiting cars to 500 baht (or even 1000 baht) per fill is a really daft res

PTT: Yesterday I refueled in Surin, Gasohol95, no problems, no queues, the price was the same as always, only diesel was out.

I don't know if there is a quantity limit, I always fill up for 500B.

I wish I could ''fill up'' for Bht 500.

My Vigo holds 70 litres, x Bht30 = Bht 2100

Well they don’t like it up em!

This is having a direct effect on sales of EV’s. My friend is about to order a BYD Sealion 7 because of this nonsense.

I do not use petrol.

I use vegetable oil, such as extra virgin olive oil, and sunflower oil.

Probably about once every 4 months, then I do go for a drive.

But, only in an EV.

What the eff are you on about. Using veg oil in an EV? And only use it 4 months apart.

One of the best comedies ever written., IMHO.

I wonder how long until the first house blows up by messing up their 'fuel storage'.

Even I would never be so foolish as to use vegetable oil in an EV.

I was merely pointing out that IF petroleum runs low, then I can still use vegetable oil for salads.

Also, if modified properly, I can buy an old combustion-engine auto, and use Extra-Virgin to run that, as well.

I expect the oil shortage to be very persistent, this time.

As I did post in the Political Soapbox section, this morning....

It may be the overall and long-term strategy of the USA to cause the availability of petroleum products to dramatically take a nose dive.

The reasons for this align with the policy of America, vis a vis China, to curtail the further expansion of China's military, and also its economic strength.

This is why I say: This Oil Crisis these days, unlike the 1970s, has just begun.

And, the Iran War is JUST STARTING, and Iran has only just begun to fight.

I would be very worried if I had a combustion engine vehicle, at this point.

Trump might decide to LAY WASTE to all of Iran's energy production capability...PDQ...

So, you can see, now, what I am on about, I guess....

You mean, you expect an attack on Turkey, and their olives?

I think not.

Trump has no need to artificially lay waste to olive cultivation.

You are always so correct Gamma. Now please go away.

14lt/100km would be nice, current diesel pickup is around 16lt/100km!

What's that in kpl please.

My Vigo does between 10 and 15 km/litre, so my dashboard tells me.

Yeh, sounds like fun. When is your 19th birthday?

How do you get such a vehicle through it's annual test with a 4 inch pipe.

Ahh 19... those were the days, knock the back outta girls like a jack rabbit.

Annual test ?..... pickup is 6 months old.

Agree, but people like Ralf do not care about things like that.

Get in the car and foot down, see how much fuel he can use per km.

You bought a pick-up which only does 6 kpl. More $$$$ than sense.

So I guess at the way you drive it, the odometer reading needed for the MOT test will never be reached, that's if it reaches the required number of years.

I am almost finished filling her up - was a nice sunny day, cost THB 0 (zero)

photo_2026-03-22_22-47-06.jpg

FWIW I went to a PTT in Bangkok today. No limits, I filled up with 95, no problem.

They were short on diesel though. Not that I have anything that runs on diesel, just saw the signs.

35 liters, if half empty, I fill up 500B.

Driving back last Sunday from Bangkok to CNX, I had no problem refilling (500thb max) my ICE car with 95. But Diesel waiting lines on highways were really impressive...

Our housekeeper's husband works at a Banjak station. He told her to tell us today, the 23rd, that they are not getting any more diesel until at least the 1st.
