What's your Status on Fuel (petrol, diesel) in your area?

Featured Replies

In Soi Dao NE Chantaburi the two big PTTs on the highway are either empty or limited to 500 for diesel every day last two weeks basically. Think I paid a tad over 30 yesterday. The others have had sporadic supply. Had no worries filling my gas bottle 15ltrs 445 or my wife’s car with 91

I can understand banning people filling jerry cans or containers - that actually makes sense because it stops hoarding. But limiting cars to 500 baht (or even 1000 baht) per fill is a really daft res

In California right now (mid-March 2026), premium/high-octane gasoline is averaging around $7.79 per gallon in Los Angeles, with regular gas between $5.30–$5.40 per gallon. These are among the highest prices in the U.S., driven by crude oil trading above $100 per barrel and ongoing geopolitical tensions.

What car model, age?

Most cars/limousines can drive with. My 2011 Mazda 2 been on E20 for the most of 165 tkm.

Today at my closest PTT zero Diesel. 91, 95 and E20 still available. Chaotic scenes/queues at two other stations (Pt and Bang Chak).

I do not use petrol.

I use vegetable oil, such as extra virgin olive oil, and sunflower oil.

Probably about once every 4 months, then I do go for a drive.

But, only in an EV.

I just hope that the electric power remains on because...This seems to be shaping up into a HOT Season of record, once more, according to Thailand's prognosticators.

If I really choose not to, then I will not need to vernture out, unless by foot, for about 6 to 8 months.

I think, next time, I will stock up on sunflower oil, one year's supply.

You must have one hell of a BM with the intake you lised.

You do understand it’s Iran blocking the Hormuz straits? They’ve been preparing ; gaming such a move for at least a decade - it was only a question of when it would happen . But your position is to forever let Iran get away with its fomenting of unrest in the region (amongst other atrocities) based on that. And it’s Americas fault too is that Iran is attacking its neighbors oil facilities to foment global economic pain,is it?

Iran is a problem that was one day going to have to be dealt with and the longer it’s left the worse it will be

I cannot see how there can be such a shortage in just three weeks or so. The oil is bought well in advance, and there are millions of litres in store all over the World.

Maybe the oil companies are taking a slight advantage of the situation.

I have not read of anyone complaining about the fertilizer price jump. Does everyone live in the Big City? A Thai friend of mine wanted me to ask.

That's a US gallon = 3.78541 liters

$7.79 = ฿255.43 ÷ 3.78541 = ฿67.47

Trump started the war without consulting anyone, except possibly Israel.

He had previously put tariffs on just about country on the planet. Now he is calling other countries cowards for not helping clean up his mess, which is a bit rich coming from a draft dodger.

Iran was no threat to anyone but Israel. It depends on the Strait of Hormuz to export its oil too.

One can bully and threaten for only so long, then someone smacks them in the mouth.

Wife got diesel b7 for our crv this morning, PTT station in Nonthaburi. No restriction. Normally we use premium (as its Euro 5 that my car uses), but they were out of premium.

I suspect some hoarders are collecting diesel so as to resell it when the price increases. Nice litter earner.

Half the petrol stations on the main drag out of Chiang Rai are shuttered, out of fuel.

Yes and no. A half ton diesel pickup such as a Silverado has a fuel economy of about 10 litres/100 km. The Isuzu with a smaller engine runs at about 7.4 litres/100 km.

My 20 yo Toyota Vios has a fuel economy of 6.0 litres/100 km.

Many Thais don't buy diesels for load capacity. They buy them because they are big, and as such can bully their way in traffic.

Of course, if you substitute a gasoline engine into a Silverado, you'll be stopping off at every petrol station.

Petrol or Diesel, a pickup truck will always have a poorer ride than a car.

Would love a 6.2 V8 crew cab.

Wish they were sold here.

For some, bigger vehicles compensate for deficiencies elsewhere.

Fuel economy 14 litres/100 km. Camels drink less.

No compensation here Champ.

14lt/100km would be nice, current diesel pickup is around 16lt/100km!

You will need to post photos before I believe you.

I asked AI what the difference in fuel consumption was traveling at 60 km/hr and 90 km/hr. For my Vios, quite significant - an extra 2 L/100 km at 90. Apparently 60 km/hr is the sweet spot for small 4 cylinder engines.

Maybe the oil companies are taking a slight advantage of the situation.

The "shortage" is only at the pumps at the moment, and is purely due to consumer panic. Oil companies provide regular road tanker deliveries to their stations based on normal weekly / monthly demand. When a mob of people flood said stations demanding they fill jerry cans, and top up their vehicles every time the tank drops by a few Litres, then the stations use up their supply very quickly. It's exactly like the great toilet paper shortage in the West during Covid, or a run on a bank, that has enough money for regular daily activity, but nowhere near enough if everyone wanted to withdraw their money at once.

Hopefully, once the next round of deliveries have been made (PTT in this area are saying around the end of the month), enough people will be sitting on full jerry cans and fuel tanks that things will revert to some normality, though, given human stupidity, I won't be holding my breath. If the supply chain issue isn't resolved by around June, then we will likely be looking at a real shortage.

In Buriram, a lot of smaller stations are totally empty, as are most PT ones. PTT seem to be doing better, but there were long queues for diesel at the local station when I went to put 500 Baht worth of E20 in the car yesterday. Luckily, the front row of pumps sell premium diesel - which was all gone for some reason, and E20, so no one was waiting at that one. I was able to cut in front, fill the tank and be gone in about the usual time.
