Is there a time limit on getting visa stamps transferred?

Featured Replies

I'm about to be issued with a new passport, is there any time limit to get visa stamps transferred over?

Must be done prior to next extension.

Which immigration office?

Jomtien, Pattaya. Are there any forms that need to be completed to go with the stamp transfers?

Oh. Overlooked 90 report.

You should do transfer prior to next report.

You could do it at same time

I've been doing my 90 days online for a few years, now I believe there are a couple of forms to fill out. I have been at the same address for 16 years, do I still need to do a TM30?

I only do TM30 prior to my annual extension or after return from abroad.

Pattaya may be different.

As suggested, I would go to immigration when report due and do transfer at same time

I have a new passport and I still have to transfer the visa stamps.

I did my 90 day report before the transfer.

I had the two passport with me but I wasn't asked to show the old one.

Planning on doing the transfer within a few weeks, just before the permission to stay expires (July).

Immigration prefers that the transfer is done in the city that the Visa was issued.

When I received my new Australian passport earlier this year, there was a small letter included in the envelope containing the passport indicating that the old passport would expire one month after the date of issue of the new passport. This suggests, at least to me, that the old passport becomes invalid after that period; I am assuming that any active visas in the old passport remain valid until the visa expires.

When a passport is cancelled the stamps such as reentry permit remain valid till their expiry

More than prefers...

Transfer can only occur at office where the stamps were issued

Assuming that you do mean real genuine McCoy original non-immigrant visas (as opposed to ones masquerading as existing annual extensions of stay), they will be referred to in the Thai-language annotation which IMM will stamp on the first page of your new passport as part of the transfer process in any event.

Uhh, what the real McCoy?

True: by way of example my original Non O single entry visa was a one page sticker in pp.

Of course that was "used" upon entry.

3 passports later the information of that Non O is referenced in the new pp.

In addition stamps such as reentry permit etc are transferred if have validity.

Visas are not transferred. Reference to them is noted.

To be more succinct, you can only transfer stamps at the Immigration office in the Province where you are registered as staying, which is not necessarily where the last extension of stay permit was issued.

Unless you move to a new permanent location and file a new TM30 with a different Immigration office.

Couple of passports ago I renewed my pp and needed stamps transferred.

CW would not transfer my reentry permit even though I had lived at same address in Bangkok.

Reason: the reentry permit was issued at DMK airport.

No problem I just travelled with both passports

I got a new passport last year and transferred my visa at Chiang Wattana. They required a letter from my Embassy stating that I had been issued new passport X replacing old passport Y and can the immigration transfer visa stamps or words to that effect.

Several embassies no longer supply that "letter"

Immigration is aware of this

Some embassies have to issue a document regarding you address for transferring visa, some don't need to. Imm has a list.

Granted this is from AI..

"As of April 2023, Thai immigration generally does not require an embassy letter to transfer stamps to a new passport, as many embassies no longer issue them"

Think you will find immigration no longer interested in letter.

Note: text emphasis not mine

No help for the man, yet?

OK, it's an expression meaning the real deal, real thing, the actual thing. Don't know the origin, but know what it means.

I know what the saying infers, but what does the post refer to! Real stamps V fake stamps or not current stamps or dodgey agent stamps or BS post stamps??
