Why is the lead video captioned "Thailand cuts visa-free stay .." when it CLEARLY has not done so?

30 days is enough. An extension is often possible.

99% of tourists spend no more than three weeks here......30 days is plenty.

In this day and age, many people have considerable amounts of free time. To fly half way around the world takes one day each leg of the trip which cuts into vacation time. 60 days is much more reasonable. I am semi retired and like to go to places that make things easy. Getting an extension while possible, just adds more things to do and takes time. If one uses a visa office to make the run to Jomtien immigration as I have done in the past to get an extension, requires a person to give them your passport. sorry, but being overseas I want my passport in my hands at all time. In addition, if trying to rent a place, say for 60 days or 90 days, the office wants to see those valid visa dates in the passport. having just the 30 day visa exempt can make renting for a discount a problem

30 days is more than enough for genuine tourists, there are plenty of other visa options for anyone who wants to stay longer.

Getting something such as a Single entry SETV tourist visa in advance before travel is a pain in the butt to do. Who says 30 days is enough for a tourist? Thailand is a huge country with many different cities and regions. One can easily relax and just walk around Pattaya for 30 days and never eat at the same place twice. Beaches in Phuket are great but why induce a tourist to such short times? I just spent 88 days in Thailand but I got the Non Imm O retirement visa in advance because of the simplicity. Yes I could have gotten 60 days visa exempt on arrival, and then applied for a 30 day extension. But to me it was worth the 80 USD to get in advance. The online visa system was quick and efficient.

One could easily spend one or two weeks in Bangkok alone just exploring the many Wat Thai temples that are all over the place.

Getting an extension once in country requires one to stay at least one day some place. Maybe a person is ready to go to the next city. can't move without your passport back.

You do not even get close to understanding what you are saying yourself. First of all people travel a lot longer, secondly now prices are even higher on flights on top of that. Thirdly all the people they actually try to catch with this change, are not impacted by it, at all, period.

As a cherry on top, even with the average tourist spending 12 days here only, or 95%, that means that the 5% in fact is more valuable than the entire 95%, use your brains perhaps. If you have 5% of tourists that stay 10-20 times as long while they spend the same, that 5% is way more sustainable for a country. This same 5% is usually what keeps most businesses even afloat here, else they bankrupt already.

Then in terms of the category misbehaving tourists itself, these misbehave from the first day, the visa length has zero to do with it. And in fact they again belong in 99.9% of the cases to the short staying group too, not the long stayers at all.

The bottom line is that you should actually provide to that 5% and not to the 95%, that is complete delusional, specially in a country that in fact has declining tourism, it is down already 16% since 2025. This decline will only get bigger and bigger because all Thailand has done for the past decade is ensuring nobody comes back as repeat visitor anymore after a first time, and they abused all countries by now.

It is just as delusional as giving foreigners with foreign children 1 year visa's in even just 8K a month billingual schools while demanding a 400K deposit and countless paperwork, for the same 1 year visa, if having a Thai child. Thailand is cooked.

Anyone that agrees with this new proposed policy is just as useless as a cockroach. It only damages a already damaged industry further. But of course the idiots will do it, only to revert it in a desperate move later on this year, AGAIN. It even states that they would suddenly do allow you to extend by 30 days again while that was what they just changed to max 1 time a year...........

Meanwhile in Vietnam 45 on arrival or 90 days in 5 minutes online, repeated infinite, hassle free, since over a decade. Kilometers of beaches full with the traditional EU/US tourists, that all drink beers and have fun the way we knew it, at 40% lower costs, while we think those times are gone due to Thailand their actions and are made to believe prices are what they are due to 'inflation'.

Ever wondered why you never meet those cool interesting people anymore like in the old days? They are there.

Why does VN not have the same problems? Because they not have massive flows of locals that are corrupt and enabled foreigners. The people you obviously would need to address if wanting to really fix such issue. As well a VN cop of 1.50 meter tall comes with a 1.5 meter batton.
