Kharg island maybe the target

Pentagon weighs sending in 3,000 troops to help Iran war, including potentially seizing main oil hub: report

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-iran-war-troops-pentagon-oil-b2944172.html

Senior Pentagon officials may reportedly deploy the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division’s ‘Immediate Response Force’ to help in the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran

Don’t tell Trump, pishing away American lives to take control of an ‘oil hub’ is a pointless exercise if the Iranians still control the flow of oil to the hub.

Kharg island is only 16 miles (25 km) from the coast, so it's easy to target for the Iran army.

I would tend to think it's a deception.

The US previously sent 8000 marines to Grenada to take on 800 Cubans who didn't want to be there.

Too small a force. No answer about how they get up the Gulf.

To be charitable, its a feint. More likely 3000 marines, paratroopers etc sounds impressive to a bloke with bonespurs.

Second thoughts on putting large numbers of troops on an oil hub while not controlling the pipelines delivering oil to the hub.
