Artemis II Crew Hails ‘Stunning’ Earth Views On Moon Mission

Astronauts aboard Artemis II have described breathtaking views of Earth after blasting into deep space, marking humanity’s return beyond low-Earth orbit for the first time in more than 50 years.

Speaking from their Orion spacecraft, commander Reid Wiseman said the sight of the planet “from pole to pole” left the entire crew momentarily speechless.

“You could see Africa, Europe — even the northern lights,” he said. “It was the most spectacular moment.”

First Deep Space Flight Since Apollo Era

The 10-day mission — launched from Kennedy Space Center — is the first crewed journey beyond Earth orbit since Apollo 17.

Astronauts Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen joined Wiseman on the historic 685,000-mile lunar flyby.

Hansen admitted the moment of launch still caught him off guard.

“You’re expecting it — but when it happens, there’s disbelief,” he said. “I just had a huge smile.”

Key Milestone Achieved En Route To Moon

The crew has already completed one of the mission’s most critical steps — the translunar injection burn, sending the spacecraft on its path toward the Moon.

NASA officials confirmed the maneuver was flawless, meaning orbital mechanics will now carry the crew around the far side of the Moon and back to Earth.

Minor Glitch, Quick Fix Onboard

Even in deep space, it wasn’t all smooth sailing.

A brief fault warning in the spacecraft’s toilet system raised eyebrows after launch — but was quickly resolved.

Koch, jokingly dubbing herself the “space plumber,” brushed it off, saying the system is “probably the most important piece of equipment on board.”

“We’re All One People,” Says Glover

Pilot Victor Glover reflected on the view from orbit, saying Earth’s divisions simply disappear from space.

“You look beautiful… you look like one thing,” he said. “We’re all one people.”

His remarks echoed the broader mission goal — not just returning to the Moon, but inspiring unity and a new era of exploration.

Path To The Moon — And Beyond

Artemis II is a crucial stepping stone toward future lunar landings and eventual missions to Mars.

For now, the crew continues its journey around the Moon — carrying not just scientific ambition, but a powerful reminder of what humanity can achieve when it works together.
