Three Foreigners Arrested for Using Toy Money at a Phuket Venue

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Three foreigners were arrested in Phuket on April 1 for attempting to settle a bill at an entertainment venue using toy banknotes. The arrest occurred on Bangla Road after venue staff noticed the suspicious nature of the banknotes used by the men, whose nationalities remain undisclosed. The suspects tried to pay for their food and drinks with three $100 bills, prompting the alert worker to verify their authenticity.

The staff member's vigilance prevented the group from leaving before a closer examination revealed the notes were fake. Local media reported that the counterfeit notes were printed on regular paper, distinctly differing from genuine currency materials. Additionally, the bills were marked with the word “Copy” and the phrase “For Toy Only,” suggesting they originated from a toy or card game set.

Under Thai Criminal Law, using counterfeit money can lead to severe penalties, with potential sentences reaching up to 10 years in prison and fines as high as 200,000 baht. The incident highlights the importance of thorough currency checks in preventing fraud.

Looking forward, the suspects will face legal proceedings in Thailand, where they could be prosecuted under stringent forgery laws. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Dumb as donuts.

Just try passing a fake doller bill in the Philippines. They don't even look at it but can tell by the feel.

Regardless of whether the notes were marked as toy money, the intent here is pretty clear — they tried to cheat the venue.

A proper penalty is absolutely warranted to reflect the seriousness of attempted fraud, and their home country’s authorities should be informed so this behaviour doesn’t simply follow them to the next destination.

Toy money? And they thought that would fly? Just how drunk were they?

Come on 100 dollar bills?

With 20s they would have had at least a small chance of success..

"Toy money" I was expecting to read that the tried to pay with Thai Baht. 😁

I would say that they are as dumb as cat sh#t if they thought tht they could trick the Thai casheer The Thai people would recognize a fake banknote at 100 meters during a total solar eclipse. They had 2 chances of getting away with that...none and buckleys.

Arrogant <deleted>wits trying that here.

Why on earth would you try to pay in $100 bills? Why not exchange them first.....ah yes, fake.

There’s something more to this story.

Trying to exchange fake notes, ok. Criminals do that.

Trying to pay with fake USD bills in a Thai establishment, stupid criminals do that.

Trying to pay with fake bills marked for toy only and copy sounds like a joke

If only one of them tried to pass a fake bill, that's one arrest, unless the others were carrying. But for all of them to present $100 bills--WTF!

Can't be from the usual countries mentioned on this forum, or they would have already given their nationality.

They must live their life as a game . . .

For chinese new year, these notes are sold by the kg in Cambodia in every market. Something like 100 baht per kg!!

We can guess the nationalities. The same ones are protected in the uk as well.

Honey, I'm going to Makro, where did you put the Monopoly game at ?

Total morons. Probably didn't think the Thais could read English to notice the discrepancies.

They were likely using prop money used in movies and by rappers in their music videos because they do look real if you don't examine them carefully. I just checked Amazon and they sell 10 "stacks" of 1000 bills for US$39.99.

One can theorise these guys didn't read English, otherwise why use bills clearly marked "Toy Money".

Probably americans. Always doing scams abroad.
