The situation creates a military and diplomatic challenge for the United States, as President Trump has threatened in recent days to bombard Iran “back to the Stone Ages.” Over the past 24 hours, the United States and Iran have been trading attacks on military and civilian infrastructure in the region.

The U.S. jet was an F-15E, U.S. officials said, which has a standard crew of two, and not one of the stealth fighters of more recent design. Just days ago, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Iran’s air defenses were so degraded that the United States was sending B-52 bombers over the country; the F-15E is much smaller, faster and more agile, making it a tougher target.

The Kuwait Petroleum company on Friday said that drones had struck the Mina al-Ahmadi refinery, without saying where the attack came from. In a separate incident, the Kuwaiti government said Iran had damaged a power and water desalination plant in the country. In Abu Dhabi, the Emirati capital, the authorities said falling debris from an air defense interception started a fire at a major gas field, halting operations there.

Ok, an aircraft crashed. If the pilot(s) are captured, they will be POWs, not hostages. Both the USA and Israeli militaries are prepared for events like this. One cannot expect to undertake a military operation like this without losing some aircraft or personnel. No need for histrionics. There are casualties when there is an intervention. The service members who are serving are well aware of the risks of service and accept that they may be injured, killed or captured.

TWZ says it's a Strike Eagle f-15E. And the photos released by the Iranians seem to confirm that. The Iranians also claimed that the IRGC was using a new air defense system. Could be. Or maybe they just got lucky. I guess future developments will show whether the Iranians are blowing smoke or not.

More B-52s necessary, use up some bombs before their expiration date.

What is clearly needed is for someone to make Donald Trump pledge to bomb Iran back to the Stone Age. Until thenAmerica's continuing moderation in bombing is doomed to fail.
