New Printer/Scanner

Featured Replies

My 9 year old printer has died. I admit to neglecting it with only occasional use. I took it to the official service shop and they assessed it as repairable but at a cost of 50% more than I paid for it, They also offered me a new device that could sing, dance and even tell a joke. I would never use these features so I refused their offer.

I am now in the market for a new Multifunction Printer, therefore I ask all expert members to recommend their preferences at under 3000 Baht and shops in Chiangmai to visit, Thank you.

Use a kodak shop to do your printing. Why have hardware laying around you never use when you can get the few things you rarely need printed done at a few baht per page.

Always check the cost of Ink. Printers are cheap. Ink is where their profit is.

Any print shops work too. They're common and cheap around universities.

Most copy shops can do it, scan and print

DO NOT BUY THE BUDGET FRIENDLY CANON E410, unless you want to find out later that it is programmed NOT to be able to print ANY photographs larger than about 8 x 6", it is designed this way so you can take advantage of the cheap ink, the pretty decent scanner, but as soon as you try to select PHOTO paper, it cripples you with the paper size limit - Forces you to buy a dedicated photo printer. If you are doing basic printing, no fancy photos, then it does the job and at a much better price than the photo printers.

Mama Mia! I just bought a CANON E410 a couple weeks ago to replace my dead (cheap) HP!

Very budget friendly at THB 1390. Just what I need to scan and print documents.

Office Mate at airport central and central festival have a good selection of printers. Consider a Brother printer.

I love my Canon E410, having one in my condo and another in my house. For general printing and scanning, they have proven themselves to be very reliable. For printing photos, I recommend a dedicated photo printer, one that is designed mainly for photos, or, as others have mentioned, get your photos printed at a local print shop. I just checked, and the Canon E410 can print in many sizes up to letter size.

When my last printer conked out, I replaced it with a HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2335 All-in-One Printer and am very satisfied with it - cost was about 3,300 baht. It prints, scans, and provides photo copies of documents, etc.

When I want to print something, I want to do it right away from my desktop PC, I have no desire to copy files to a flash drive and then carry it to a photo shop to be printed for a fee (even if it is only a small one). I also rely on the scanner to copy documents into pdf or jpg format so I can email them to others as attachments.

I gave up on printers several years ago. I didn't use mine that often and got tired of having to buy new cartridges every time I wanted to print a couple of pages due to the ink evaporating. I even tried removing the cartridges after each use and wrapping them in cling film. Didn't work. Much cheaper to pop to the local copy shop when I need some printing done. Still got the old printer but only use it to scan documents now.

No recommendation for which or where to buy, just make sure you buy one that has self refillable 'ink tanks', so no need to replace expensive cartridges all the time.

3000 baht budget should buy a nice one, as last one I had, was only 2000. Epson w/ink tanks, I think, and about the same price as the 2 replaceable HP ink cartridges needed for the HP printer it replaced.

@Maybole

I gave up on inkjet printers after trying HP, Canon and Epson ink tank printers.

Every time I wanted to use them, the jets were blocked and I got pin striped printouts.

Moved to a multi function colour laser printer, which is fast and super reliable, although the cost of the cartridges is eye watering.

If you only want to print the odd document, the suggestion to use a print shop and just use the multi function as a scanner is a good option.

My last two all-in-one machines have been Brother and based upon my own experience I would recommend their products.

I agree. I had the same problem as the OP, I used my printer too rarely to keep the ink from clogging. I've decided against buying a new one - for those few pages that I need to print maybe 2-3 times per year, I just go to a shop and let them print it for me.

Occasional use of ? Buy a brother laser WiFi (if you don’t need color). I bought it either Lazada or shoppee. After market drum and toner is cheap too. I’ve had it for 2 years 👍.

Having had Epson, Canon, HP, Oki, and others over the years, I recommend Brother, with a tank system, and most importantly, leave it powered permanently..... because it self-cleans periodically, even if you don't print for a week or two. No clogs, no wasted ink cartridges, etc. and high quailty scanning and printing.

But, if you do a lot of b/w documents, get a cheapo Epson laser as well, it will print much faster.

...Is It Only Me That Has Had My Scanning Function Disabled By Google Or Microsoft...(?)

...Is It Related To The Age Of The Device...(?)

...(Canon MP280)...

I've got a Brothers DCP-1510 scanner/printer. I picked it up in Chiang Mai Pantip plaza for about 3000 THB about 5 or 6 years ago. They are about 1000 THB more now. Solid black&white laser printer. The stock laser cartridge will need to be replaced as it isn't a "full" cartridge, but I'm still using the cartridge that I put in years ago. It will run on Windows, Linux, and MacOS.
I love this thing. Best printer I've ever bought.

After buying a Laser Printer, I'll never, ever go back to those crappy $$$$$ ink-jet $$$$$ printers. Ever.

You get about 10 times as many "pages" printed when comparing inkjets to laserjet. And laserjets just don't dry out or clog. Sometimes you need to clean the primary roller with a q-tip and a little alcohol. But like I stated above, my current toner cartridge is at least 5 years old and still humming along.

I use my phone as a scanner. I use an App called CamScanner. It can do a number of things but, it depends on your usage requirements, I normally use the app to take photos of a document then transfer PDF versions to my computer using either email or AirDrop. Works really well, and there are dozens of similar apps.

For printing, as I only need B&W for 99% of the time, I have a HP laser M111w. It sits for ages, and works first time every time if I need it. I've found the running costs to be a tiny fraction off of my previous inkjet.

I've used Print shops for a while (since my last printer expired), however my needs have increased recently and I've considered the Canon models G2010, G3010 and G3730. All have refillable internal ink tanks and the last 2 mentioned use Wifi as well as USB printer cable (all 3). The prices are a little over your nominated price of 3, 000 baht, being 3,400, 3,990 and 3,990 baht. It appears to me the G3730 is best value and I saw it at Chiang Mai Power Buy. The G3730 is worth considering if you accept the higher price (wherever from).

Very disappointed with my G3010.

As you rarely use it maybe a little overkill.

The Brother MFC-2700D laser jet. It is only black and white, of course can scan color. I have one here and one in the states and they are probably the most reliable and cost effective laser printer your going to find for the money.

The one in the states is probably 6 years old now, one here 4 years old and never a problem. Toner is a must, ridiculous ink cartridge non-sense

I bought a cheap Canon printer at SiamTV 2weeks ago does everything a person could want in a printer and came with coloured ink and black ink , cost under 2000 baht .
