Vietnam ranks among the top three destinations for solo female travelers due to its safety, friendliness, and rich cultural experiences, according to the BBC. Utilizing data from the Women, Peace and Security Index and the Global Peace Index from 2023 to 2025, along with traveler surveys, the BBC highlights Vietnam's welcoming atmosphere for solo female tourists.

The report, published on March 28, cites solo travel as a growing trend, especially among older women who opt for independent trips. Global searches for "solo travel for women" have increased by 30% over the past five years, showing a strong interest in this travel segment. In Vietnam, solo female travelers frequently mention the country's safety and the kindness of locals, which makes exploring Vietnam a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Travel experts recommend engaging in local activities like cooking classes or food tours to better immerse in the culture and feel more confident during the visit. Staying in homestays or with local families is encouraged to deepen cultural understanding. Popular attractions for solo travelers include trekking in the northern highlands and experiencing life on the Mekong Delta, both regarded as safe and enriching.

Costa Rica leads the list of top destinations, thanks to improvements in safety rankings and its reputation as a happy country. Other notable destinations include Estonia, Uruguay, and Norway, which are recognized for security, gender equality, and positive travel experiences. Although safety is a primary concern, advancements in infrastructure and traveler services have been beneficial for solo female tourists.

Vietnam's recognition as a safe travel destination extends beyond this list. In 2024, the country was the only Southeast Asian nation featured on Time Out's list of the nine safest places for solo female travelers. The same year, surveys by Best Diplomat and Travel Off Path highlighted Vietnam as a top safe destination in Asia. Additionally, the 2023 Gallup Global Law and Order Index ranked Vietnam as one of Asia's most peaceful countries and seventh worldwide.
