I wonder if the best option might be to close the straight which the USA can easily do. Already 12 million of the 20 million barrels are being diverted. In a years time, other countries will increase production and the gap could be almost a non-issue. The world at this time is not short on oil reserves.

Iran with zero oil shipments wouldn't make it a year before waving the white flag. Not sure about that but seems very likely.

Probably a crazy idea but maybe not?

Oil exports account for about 12% of Iran's GDP; its an important part of their economy. 12% in GDP will be like a COVID-like drop in GDP, ie. a severe recession.. Kharg Island is not the only way Iran ships out product. It has another, albeit smaller, oil terminal on the Arabian Sea, past the Straits of Hormuz. It has gas pipeline project with Pakistan and Armenia. Also exports via the Caspian Sea, and proposed pipelines to Russia.

Aviation fuel from the Gulf has to go via the Straits, as does Urea and Helium. Qatar supplies 30% of global helium, which is extensively used in semiconductor manufacture. Urea has a bunch of uses besides fertilizer.

Gulf states also depend on the Straits for food supplies, goods, including medicines. A number of American medical companies, such as JnJ, also manufacture medical devices for export in the UAE.

The Straits isn't just about oil.

USships re Said to be clearing the mines, seems they don’t have drone mine sweepers yet

I repeat what I posted earlier;

"Since you admit you do not know the difference I suggest you stop making ill-informed comments on "Mine Clearing" operations!"

As you have just proved again you have a total lack of knowledge on this highly technical subject!

Probably best that you drop out of this topic!

Latest news indicate that Donald is getting ready to get rid of the mines. This in stark contrast to certain claims that the US has no mine sweeping capabilities left.

I said that 12 million of the barrels have been recovered which match my post OP perfectly. Do the math :) The world is producing 8 million barrels less today then pre war. This is exactly what I stated.

Calm down dude. This is a discussion and you don't have to get bent - chill. It is weird how people get so angry when questioned...

Yes.

Almost as angry, allegedly, as Thai drivers, when they hear someone innocently toot a horn.

And you believe the compulsive lying Trump!

Trump will get rid of the mines, rest assured.

Donald J. Trump will rid the strait of the mines if he must Don a Wet-suit and find every single mine, himself.

Kerching China tanker got out despite being warned. Trump you are going to need to shoot at and.or board to effect the blockade - just like Iran shot 2 or 3 to encourage the others. Failure to do it and your blockade fails - but there's a surpris - he will be getting bored now and want get back to attacking the Pope.

A FALSELY flagged tanker — sanctioned by the US for previous Iran trading — has exited the Strait of Hormuz, testing US President Donald Trump’s naval blockade.

Rich Starry (IMO: 9773301), a 36,000 dwt combined chemical and oil tanker, thought to be fraudulently flagged to Malawi, had initially appeared to abort an outbound voyage on Monday, with Automatic Identification System data showing the 2015-built vessel turning back westward after heading towards the Larak-Qeshm route.

However, Rich Starry then restarted its voyage overnight and exited the strait in the early hours of Tuesday, apparently unchallenged.
