What's curious is that the President took the image down, while coming up with a feeble excuse that he was being depicted as a doctor alongside a red cross nurse. He didn't have to do anything. Whatever blasphemy laws the US has left on the books (a few states have some) are completely unenforceable due to the First Amendment. I suspect most people would find it completely objectionable (rightfully) for a publisher to be attacked for a cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohamed, and nearly everyone would back Salman Rushdie to the hilt for writing and publishing The Satanic Verses.
