‘War crimes’ : Democrats move to impeach Pentagon chief

House Democrats have launched a dramatic bid to impeach Pete Hegseth, accusing the Pentagon chief of war crimes, abuse of power and endangering US troops — in a move set to ignite a fierce political clash in Washington.

The five articles, led by Yassamin Ansari, are unlikely to pass a Republican-controlled Congress. But they sharpen Democratic attacks on a key ally of Donald Trump — and raise the stakes over US military conduct abroad.

Iran Strikes at the Heart of the Case

At the centre of the impeachment push are allegations that Hegseth authorised military strikes on Iran without congressional approval. Lawmakers claim the operations exposed US personnel to “extreme and unnecessary risk,” including potential ground deployments.

If proven, the charge cuts to the core of constitutional war powers — a line Congress has long guarded but often struggled to enforce.

Civilian Deaths and ‘No Mercy’ Doctrine

A second article escalates the accusations further, alleging violations of the laws of war. Democrats cite reported strikes on civilian targets, including a girls’ school in Minab, and controversial “double tap” attacks in the Caribbean.

They argue Hegseth’s rhetoric — pledging “no quarter, no mercy” — signals a dangerous shift that could breach the Geneva Conventions and expose US forces to legal and moral blowback.

Security Breach Deepens Crisis

The so-called “Signalgate” scandal forms another pillar of the case. The accidental inclusion of a journalist in a secure messaging thread discussing Yemen strikes has raised alarm over operational security at the highest levels.

Democrats say the episode reflects systemic recklessness, not a one-off error.

Oversight Stonewalled, Military Reputation at Risk

Further charges accuse Hegseth of blocking congressional oversight and withholding key details on civilian casualties. Lawmakers also point to internal policy shifts — including rollbacks on diversity initiatives and tensions with NATO — as damaging to US credibility.

The Pentagon has dismissed the effort as political theatre. But with allegations spanning battlefield conduct to institutional integrity, the confrontation threatens to deepen divisions over America’s global role — and how far its leaders can go unchecked.

Wonder if this works ..this time ?

This confirms what we already know: the Democrats are an ineffective party.

Why not wait until after the mid-terms, after which the Republicans will control nothing?

Does double jeopardy apply?

Democrats tend to be the party that prioritizes acting like rabid raccoons over substance.

I thought St Pete was one of the new Messiah's most faithful disciples. Can you name another 11. If he's even on that list, my money's on Shady.

The Democrats seem to lack any productive ideas other than “I Hate Trump”.
