New tires

Featured Replies

My 2004 Toyota Hilux needs tires soon the front are 255/70/15 but the rear are 265/70/15 can't even find any 265 on a 15'' rim only 16'', would fitting 255/70/15 all round be okay? Thanks in advance

Had a few Toyota pickups with that standard size. here's what AI says, which is correct............Yes, fitting 255/70R15 tires all-round on a 2004 Toyota Hilux (sixth generation) is generally okay and is a listed original equipment (OE) or approved tire size for that model, particularly for 4x4 variants with factory flares.

Here are the details on fitting this size:

  • Fitment Compatibility: 255/70R15 is a common OE size for the 2004 Toyota Hilux, often paired with 15x7 rims, including for models like the 2.4i 4WD, 2.4 TD, and 2.7i.

  • Clearance: This size is considered a standard-to-narrower profile compared to some popular aftermarket upgrades (like 31x10.5 or 265/70/16), so it should not rub or require modifications like suspension lifts, guard trimming, or bumper trimming on a stock 2004 model.

  • Tire Specs: A 255/70R15 tire has a diameter of roughly 29.1 inches and a width of 10 inches, making it a safe, standard fit.

  • Performance: Using this size all-round is appropriate and, being the intended OE size, it will not negatively affect your gearing or speedometer calibration.

Are the rims the same width?

As long as the rims are the same, the same tires will work.

Sometimes people put bigger rims/tires on the rear.

In any event, 1cm width on a tire one way or the other likely won't matter much.

255/70/15 is the OEM size fiited when new.

Fitted all round will be fine.
