People are saying that Trump has ruined the World Cup

It's often said by people that everything Trump touches turns to the brown stuff.

So this shouldn't be any surprise.

Too bad it's way too late to take the USA out of the shared hosting role.

Trump and FIFA Have Already Broken the 2026 World Cup

Travel bans, ICE fears, and astronomical costs are ruining the tournament before it begins—not that Trump or Gianni Infantino care.

Take a random moment from Trump’s second term—his inauguration, a state visit to the Middle East, a meeting of the preposterous “Board of Peace,” even just a random day when cameras are allowed into the Oval Office—and there is a decent chance that Gianni Infantino will be somewhere in the frame. From practically the moment Trump returned to office, the FIFA president has slavishly followed him, like an Italian golden retriever, practically everywhere.

Infantino likes to pitch himself as a partner, which to some extent he is: Beginning in June, he and Trump will put on the 2026 World Cup, the majority of which will take place in the United States. Together, the FIFA boss said when Trump was inaugurated, they will “make not only America great again, but also the entire world.” Over the last 15 months, Infantino has backed Trump as he has has gone to war with one World Cup qualifying nation (Iran), placed severe travel restrictions on several others, and threatened more or less the entire world, including World Cup co-hosts Mexico and Canada. In October, Infantino donned a red MAGA hat and pledged FIFA money to Trump’s offensive Gaza redevelopment plan; two months later, he handed him the inaugural “FIFA Peace Prize,” which may be the most ridiculous prize in human history. Infantino has even started to talk like Trump: The World Cup, he said shortly before handing Trump the gilded FIFA Peace Prize in December, is “simply the greatest event that humanity, that mankind, has ever seen and will ever see.”

Tbf I don't think that much blame can be laid at Trump's feet for this forthcoming disaster; Gianni Infantino and FIFA have managed that all by themselves.

And to think that I thought that anyone would be an improvement on Sepp Blaster. I definitely got that one wrong.

Did nobody warn Europeans that closing down(or taxing into oblivion) its homegrown oil drillers leaving Europeans dependent on rogue nations for energy would lead to tears?

Well, I did for one. Drill baby, drill!

I agree, who needs this incredibly boring sport in the good-ol-USA. It is more exciting watching paint peel off of a wall than European soccer.

And think of how pleased most Americans and most American businesses are at the delightful prospect of enriching the Big Oil and Big Gas.

And what's Daddy going to do about it? He's clearly shown that his favorite child is still in the Middle East. And we know that because he favors them with so much of his business. And not only that, he's actually withdrawn lots of forces from the Far East to play with the Iranians. I'm sure the Taiwanese are delighted that Daddy is leaving them on their own.

I don't know how many people have bought tickets but this is an unfortunate opportunity to visit the country at the worst time in history. If ticketed visitors are turned back at the borders, the outcry will be a PR disaster. God knows if bad guys will sneak in.

Worst time in history ? So worse than when there was black slavery ? Or worse than when the natives were being slaughtered ?

Ya ts the worstest time ever. Smh.

Ticketed visitors will be the elite of football fans. There will be private plane parking available. The train from NYC to the matches is a mere $150. The Lumpen most likely to be excluded wont be coming. They cant afford it.

For once we are on the same page. Probably 40-50% of tickets for the final will be reserved for corporate sponsors. Not that it matters much because the remaining 50-60% will probably cost upwards of $1000 each, and therefore be out of the price range of most ordinary fans.

It will be interesting to see how many European fans make the journey (not many is my guess) and that will have much more to do with simple economics than a dislike of Trump.

The 'working man's game' has long ceased to be that thanks to the greed of the likes of FIFA.

The hoi polloi will go no matter what. Especially the final

All sports are like that. Thank god the Trump admin is trying to stick it to the NFLs TV thieving

What does Cambodia have to do with anything? Are you banned from there like the other guys obsessed with the Country?

5 minutes ago, Yagoda said:

I doubt that very much. Imo the final will be 'spot the celebrity', which won't be difficult as apart from the corporate bods they will form the majority of the crowd. The 'hoi polloi' as you call us i.e. the ordinary fans, will be conspicuous by our absence especially if there are two European sides in the final.

Most not all, and it depends which sport and where you are watching. For example, Ashes tickets in Australia are still reasonably priced (although that is relative to the price in England).

Linebackers weigh 160kgs. They would defeat you or soccer players in 5 seconds in a fight.
