Still pretty cheap to see a MLB game

Soccer to me is like watching basketball on a giant court without scoring.

I think if there was a ring about trice the diameter of the ball, 3m higher than frame of the existing goal, soccer would be great.

I doubt that would catch on.

The most famous goal?

I suggest that you watch Maradona's second goal in the same match. It broke my heart, but as the great English football commentator, Barry Davies, said at the time, "You have to say that is brilliant".

Nah, would be Luis Fernandez's spectacular goal against a German 11 in about 1943. And he had a broken arm.

Did nobody warn Europeans that closing down(or taxing into oblivion) its homegrown oil drillers leaving Europeans dependent on rogue nations for energy would lead to tears?

Well, I did for one. Drill baby, drill!

From which rogue nations are European countries buying oil (apart from the few remaining imports from Russia)? 😃

So you do not get it ?

So tell me about Cambodia, no drugs, no corruption, no crimes, and great infrastructure ? Got it

Are you banned from Cambodia too? There was a problem with some Scandanavian school teachers when I wass there, they kick you out? Takes a lot for that.

Cambodia isnt the subject here, why are you raising it except for jealousy because I was allowed in.

For once we are on the same page. Probably 40-50% of tickets for the final will be reserved for corporate sponsors. Not that it matters much because the remaining 50-60% will probably cost upwards of $1000 each, and therefore be out of the price range of most ordinary fans.

It will be interesting to see how many European fans make the journey (not many is my guess) and that will have much more to do with simple economics than a dislike of Trump.

The 'working man's game' has long ceased to be that thanks to the greed of the likes of FIFA.

It might teach FIFA a harsh lesson if it's a failure. Learn which side their bread is really buttered. Advertisers won't pay big to display to corporate. Their targets are the real fans, and if they don't go, FIFA won't make big money. If it starts a turn off towards the World Cup, the future for them might not be easy to turnaround.

Foolish to put it in the US in the first place. Let them stick to their Super Bowl.

Why aren't you? It fulfills your criteria of a great sport. You made a serious suggestion to the modification of the rules of Association Football to make it, in your eyes, a "great sport". Or are you one of those born-again misogynist types, who believes all women's sports must be banned?

"American Football" (to differentiate it from its short lived Canadian version) would be improved immeasurably (in my view) if the ball was made to look like most balls (round), protective equipment was banned, beyond equipment to protect the shins of players, and that the line of scrimmage was elminated, to allow for more continuous, more entertaining play (and eliminate time outs, which only exist to support local used car businesses); think more like Rugby League, which is fairly frenetic. It wouldn't be Association Football, because the existing means to score a point will be retained, and there will be no goal keepers. Scores will be epic, because both teams will merely be hoofing the ball from one end to the other. Penalties will still require a specialist kicker, with legs like Stretch Armstrong to send a ball somewhere towards the floodlights. The Penalty box of course will be eliminated. Natural selection will ensure that the 'roided 300lbers are swiftly eliminated as they croak from having to run around for 90 minutes with only a 15 minute break at half time to suck on some oranges. Without protective equipment, such as helmets, those with a feminine taste for hair styling (frequent it seems in NFL) will also be at a disadvantage. The role of Quarterback will be retained because only the captain will be allowed to take free kicks. No corner kicks. Throw ins permitted; this will retain the historic linkage to the original game (the line out). Mullets, Australian, German or American style, will be banned, because we cannot allow the mentally disabled to participate in such a sport.

People are finding boxing less entertaining, and this has lead to a revival of the purest of the pugelist sports, bare knuckle fighting, where you too can get to watch a bloke wee on a battered gypsy.

😂 They wouldn't have won that match without the heroics of Hatch in goal!

As an aside, Franz Beckenbauer played for 50 minutes with a broken collar bone and dislocated shoulder in the 1970 WC semi-final.

What has Trump got to do with soccer being a boring irrelevant sport? Did Trump cause soccer to suck, or is this just ANOTHER IN A LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG line of wah wah wah Donald Trump threads?

I think we both know the answer there🤣

Every day is a school day. Think of it as a thinking lady's version of basketball. Unlike woman's basketball, you don't have to be a semiliterate freak with a growth hormone problem to succeed.

I had a mate who played prop. Broke his arm in the first 5 minutes. Didn't realise until he went to the pub afterwards.

Bert Trautmann, the German POW turned Man City Goalie, famously broke his neck during the 1956 FA Cup Final. Kept playing until the final whistle. Cesc Fabregas, the Arsenal skipper, scored against Barcelona, with a broken leg. Paul Ince refused to leave the pitch playing for England against Italy, despite losing 2 pints of blood, despite only having 8 left. Stuart Psycho Pearce thought he could just run off a broken leg. Terry Butcher earnt himself a 6 month supply of washing paper after taking one for the team.
