What has Trump got to do with soccer being a boring irrelevant sport? Did Trump cause soccer to suck, or is this just ANOTHER IN A LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG line of wah wah wah Donald Trump threads?

I think we both know the answer there🤣

Did nobody warn Europeans that closing down(or taxing into oblivion) its homegrown oil drillers leaving Europeans dependent on rogue nations for energy would lead to tears?

Well, I did for one. Drill baby, drill!

Isn't there's a saying about opening your mouth and confirming something?

That’s accurate.

This statement also applies to you.

Oh!...the irony.

In October, Infantino donned a red MAGA hat and pledged FIFA money to Trump’s offensive Gaza redevelopment plan; two months later, he handed him the inaugural “FIFA Peace Prize,” which may be the most ridiculous prize in human history. Infantino has even started to talk like Trump: The World Cup, he said shortly before handing Trump the gilded FIFA Peace Prize in December, is “simply the greatest event that humanity, that mankind, has ever seen and will ever see.”

I think Trump might take umbrage with that. In his view, it would doubtless be something that he himself did, organised, or took part in.

As for the World Cup, it has mostly been a success wherever it has been held, with a few exceptions. Trump's actions this time around have surely ruined this one for many people. It remains to be seen how many teams will not even bother to attend due to him.

So the US gets the World Cup and soon the next Olympics.

I reckon it's gonna be a really really long time (if ever) before the USA is granted another hosting position for a major global sporting event.

The "World Series" and Super Bowl don't count.

It's been a really long time since the last time the World Cup was in the US.

Do you think it will be poorly attended in protest of Trump?

Probably not but it will be interesting to see just how many US football fans turn up for some of the group matches e.g. Curaçao vs. Ivory Coast; NZ vs. Iran; Cape Verde vs. Saudi Arabia, etc.

Every game will be sold out. Millions of rich people that will go to anything "exclusive" and millions of rich Mexican that love "La Copa Mundial", and plenty of rich Europeans and South Americans that fly in for it.

Just look at Coachella

A game where players hit the ball with their heads should not be called football.

False comparison. Coachella attendees are paying to see 'A' list musical acts, not 'C' list football nations.

No doubt Curaçao, NZ and Cape Verde have many things to recommend them, but excellence at football isn't one of them: There is nothing "exclusive" in the football sense in matches involving these nations.

It's possible that the grounds will be full to capacity for all matches. Games involving the hosts, the bigger European and South American nations may genuinely 'sell out' but I suspect that many others will be 'full houses' simply because tickets have either been effectively given away on the day or because local kids have been 'press ganged' into attending.

Sure, and of course it's not all the corruption within many sport federations and also the FIFA or the big bucks the top players are getting golden-showered by sponsors, that is corrupt..No of course not. In fact, if some cannot do their daily dump by noon tomorrow, it will also be Trump's fault for sure ?

Neither should a game where Americans throw and catch balls with their hands be called (American) football!

What ? The majority of the player activity is using their feet.

Leave it to Trump to frack things up, hence the new moniker "TOFU" - Trump Only F***s Up.

No doubt Trump and his moronic administration will reduce the number of foreign attendees. Hotels close to football venues are already panicking.

Trump Chill Hits World Cup Demand as Panicked Hotels Slash Rates

"Lior Sekler, chief commercial officer at hotel operator HRI Hospitality, told The Financial Times the Trump administration is partially to blame for the slump.

“Obviously, people’s desire to come to the United States right now is down,” said Sekler, pointing to the unrest caused by Trump’s war on Iran and his hardline immigration crackdown."

Heading is an important, but secondary, element in Association football.

I would agree that it is not necessary for players to 'use their head' in the other inferior, bastardised codes of football.

Girls and boys, shall we dispense with the usual 'football vs American football vs Aussie football' bickering? There is only sport that deserves the name "football", and that's the type that gave the sport its name and is played and loved by billions of people the world over. The rest are just pretenders, okay?thumbsup

Now, having settled that, let's get back on track. Is this a sign?

Yeah, not exactly a rousing endorsement of the upcoming World Cup. Leave it to Trump to TOFU. The guy couldn't make money running a casino.....for real.😂

The chances of me attending any of these matches are slim. If I were to attend, it would have to be to see top-notch teams.

I'll be in the US from the quarter finals on.

I might go to a game

Tut,Tut It is called football because it is played on foot. Prior to Football only affluent people had the time to play games and their games were played on horseback.

Football was played by the peasantry and not on horseback thus the moniker.

BTW Football is a gentleman's game played by hooligans whereas Rugby is a hooligan's game played by gentlemen.

The most famous goal?

I suggest that you watch Maradona's second goal in the same match. It broke my heart, but as the great English football commentator, Barry Davies, said at the time, "You have to say that is brilliant".

Yeah it was good but those goals are rare. Normally a boring game for 79 minutes.

It might teach FIFA a harsh lesson if it's a failure. Learn which side their bread is really buttered. Advertisers won't pay big to display to corporate. Their targets are the real fans, and if they don't go, FIFA won't make big money. If it starts a turn off towards the World Cup, the future for them might not be easy to turnaround.

Foolish to put it in the US in the first place. Let them stick to their Super Bowl.

At this point in time no major International event should be scheduled within America at least until the error of the moron has passed. The man is just simply too unpredictable and unstable, and it's better to just live without America at this stage if at all possible.
