The charges which include money wire fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering are based on the contention that SPCL created shell entities. The thing is, the SPLC created these entities to help expose the workings of various extremist groups. It looks to me like the DOJ is once again pursuing a case against an organization that it views as an opponent. I doubt a jury is going to see it their way.

AI Gemini:

Legal Precedent: Recent Supreme Court rulings have limited the scope of federal fraud statutes, often overturning convictions where the government failed to prove an intent to obtain money or property, which could be relevant to the SPLC's defense.

The Onion being peeled to expose SPLC as another violent offspring of the far left NGO's. Imagine $millions going toward the groups they have opposed.

Conspiracy theory's are being debunked with years of historical evidence.

From the source:

"A grand jury in the Middle District of Alabama returned an 11-count indictment charging the SPLC with six counts of wire fraud, four counts of bank fraud, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, according to the Justice Department (DOJ). Between 2014 and 2023, according to the DOJ, the SPLC "secretly funneled" more than $3 million in donations to at least eight individuals associated with violent extremist groups, including the Ku Klux Klan, United Klans of America, the Nationalist Socialist Movement, Unite the Right, Aryan Nations affiliated Sadistic Souls Motorcycle Club, and more".

Just when you thought the communist front groups sponsoring anti Ice Enforcement was inexcusable ,just when you thought the 53 house dem's refusing to condemn the state sponsor of terror was inexcusable ,and now the SPLC funding the KKK,Nazi groups ,white supremacy groups and the Charlottesville protest.

Yet another conspiracy that is shown to be true in the light.

From the DoJ Press release:

“The SPLC allegedly engaged in a massive fraud operation to deceive their donors, enrich themselves, and hide their deceptive operations from the public," said FBI Director Kash Patel.

“Donors gave their money believing they were supporting the fight against violent extremism,” said Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson.

According to the indictment, the objective of the scheme and artifice was to obtain money via donations through materially false representations and omissions about what the donated funds would be used for.

NB the only statute cited in the indictment is 18 USC 1343. From Gemini:

Scheme to Defraud: A deliberate plan to deprive someone of money, property, or honest services.

Intent to Defraud: The defendant acted knowingly and with the intent to deceive.

The "scheme to defraud" must involve material misstatements or omissions, meaning the deception was important enough to alter a person's decision.

The prosecution looks like another case of dud on arrival.

Senator SChmitt aka Missouri vs Biden exposed the corruption and the lengths the far left would go by using federal officials unlawfully pressuring social media companies to censor conservative viewpoints and COVID related content in violation of the First Amendment, culminating in a 2026 consent decree that permanently enjoined key agencies is now commenting on the lefts beloved NGO who use to put a hate hex on conservative groups, is exposed for funding and encouraging the very hate.

Guess some of the "many fine people on both sides" were being paid to provoke trouble.

Excellent and IF (and it's a big IF) this is all proven in court then they should be prosectuted to the full extent of the law. Then the FBI and DOJ can also go ahead and prosecute ANYONE else who supports these vile groups including Trumps favourit bunch of incels, The Proud Boys.

Never going to happen of course because the same standards don't apply to those on the right but one can still live in hope.

It wasn't to long ago , remember this hit piece by the cultural marxist SPLC organization. Now the world is coming to terms with "what they complain about is what they're doing". They have been indicted for funding the KKK & white supremacy groups.

"Over the last several years, the political right has increasingly shifted toward an authoritarian, patriarchal Christian supremacy dedicated to eroding the value of inclusive democracy and public institutions".

I understand why for MAGA getting an indictment is considered a big deal. In this case the DOJ has actually constructed a case the at least rises to the ham sandwich standard.

The charges, as per the statute, are that the fraud lies in, if the donors were better informed as to where their donations were actually being used, they might not have donated.

It might also be, if the donors were better informed as to actually where their money was going, they might have given more.

SPLC has done a lot of good work in voter registration and civil rights. Seems to me govt always wants to charge the opposition or, as AN members might say, far-left, communist, marxist conspirators. (Hehe)

I think these accusations are unlikely but SPLC could have become corrupted, just like any other group.

I hope not.

The Senator flushed & angry about Patriot Front marches as possible false flags, together with current federal scrutiny of SPLC's history of paying informants inside extremist groups including white nationalist orgs.

The difference between the SPLCC and the "vile" groups is that the SPLCC hass far more money and followers. The popularity of these groups on the right is best illustrated that they need the SPLC to fund them.

Can you imagine? A country where right wing hate groups are so insignificant and worthless that they need to be funded by the real hate group on the left

The essense of Leftism is hate and enemies. Cant be a Leftist without them, and if you dont have them, make some up.

No. Nothing has been proven. You have the DOJ with a very poor track record making an allegation. It has yet to be substantiated, nor proven.

Haha, the SPLC has a billion dollars in assets, wont be long before some enterprising atty takes aim. Class Action based on Fraud anyone? Thats a payday just waiting.

From AI Gemini: The statute 18 USC 1343 as cited in the indictment:

True Use of Funds: The indictment alleges the SPLC did not disclose to donors that their money was being used to pay leaders and organizers of racist groups, according to statements from the Department of Justice.

Defensive Stance: The SPLC has defended its informant program, stating it was used to monitor threats of violence, shared with law enforcement, and protected their staff, calling the allegations "false".

Following the indictment, public reaction showed a divide between critics alleging the group "manufactured racism" to profit, and supporters defending the tactics.

NB: The criminal case requires proof that donors, if they knew the actual use of some their funds, would have made a different decision to donate.

The indictment is more than fraud.

OK. I incorrectly said above the fraud was the only statute. There are charges related to misrepresentation to banks.

Statement from SPLC prior to the indictment:

“Although we don’t know all the details, the focus appears to be on the SPLC’s prior use of paid confidential informants to gather credible intelligence on extremely violent groups,” he said.

The SPLC says it has used informants when tracking and exposing hate groups, including white supremacists. (Interim Director) Fair on Tuesday said that the organization “frequently” shared insight from informants with local and federal law enforcement, including the FBI, but that the nonprofit no longer works with paid informants.

“These individuals risked their lives to infiltrate and inform on the activities of our nation’s most radical and violent extremist groups,” Fair said. “When we began working with informants, we were living in the shadow of the height of the civil rights movement, which had seen bombings at churches, state-sponsored violence against demonstrators and the murders of activists that went unanswered by the justice system.”

Those days were over in 1968, The SLPC essentially kept those hate groups alive thereafter.

RE: Those days were over in 1968,

What is the SPLC?

Alabama lawyer Morris Dees founded the organization in 1971, starting a civil rights-focused law practice for people who were poor or disenfranchised. At the time, federal laws and US supreme court rulings designed to end Jim Crow-era segregation were still fairly new, and widespread resistance to desegregation persisted in the south.

People who faced continued discrimination often struggled to find attorneys who were willing to represent them in court; lawyers were reluctant to bring the first lawsuits to test the civil rights laws.
