Authorities in Metro Manila report a significant drop in ordinance violations as residents adjust to the government's Safer Cities initiative. The program initially saw high arrest numbers, with over 11,700 violators on its first day and 13,100 on the second. Recently, daily arrests have averaged around 7,000, indicating increased public cooperation.

The Safer Cities initiative began targeting specific violations from April 6 to 19, resulting in the apprehension of 119,110 individuals. These included 5,394 arrests for drinking and smoking in public areas and over 9,000 for curfew breaches. Other common violations were roaming shirtless, with 7,775 arrests, and late-night karaoke, resulting in 1,867 apprehensions.

Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. remarked on the public's growing compliance, attributing the current drop in arrests to better adherence to local laws. The initiative aims to enhance safety and public order, reflecting positively on citizen awareness and government policy implementation.

Looking forward, officials expect the downward trend to continue as awareness efforts increase and communities adapt to regulations. Future plans include strengthening public awareness campaigns to further reduce violations. Continuous monitoring and engagement with local communities remain vital to the program's success.
