Conversion "therapy" which is actually torture rather than therapy has been in the global news recently with a strong ban in the EU and US supreme court decision allowing it.

So I was curious if it was legal or not in Thailand.

The US Supreme Court did the opposite and struck down Colorado's law that banned it. It's a freedom of speech issue - the talk therapist is talking to the (voluntary) client seeking help and the Court ruled this is protected by the First Amendment.

Regarding torture, yes and no.

The attempts at conversion therapy, like throwing a football with the guys or minor electric shocks when the client thinks of Brad Pitt, is stupid and probably harmful because it really is just trying to get the client to repress those desires.

But it is definitely an emotional disturbance and therapists should never validate it or say its biological. Better to just soothe the nervous system and the dysfunctional coping techniques developed to survive either a damaging upbringing, or in some cases, a molestation. Heal the person and the gay behavior will go away on its own.

Conversion therapy is likely encouraged by highly ignorant parents who simply cannot accept the fact that their offspring are different, and not a exact blueprint of themselves.

I would certainly cancel caution and a lot of parental guidance if a young teen wanted to change their gender, but when it comes to acceptance of a young one being gay or lesbian support is what is needed, not rejection or narrow minds.

Sexual deviancy may indeed be due to mental illness as it is difficult to consider some of the activity such as branding, mutilation, urination & defecation (both the process of voiding on people and the eating/drinking of such items) as well as the extreme forms of sadism/masochism and other abusive activities as normal.

However, Conversion therapy is neither a therapy nor demonstrated as being effective. On the contrary, the practice is abusive and brutalizes already vulnerable people. Some people will experiment with their sexuality and they will sort it out themselves, one way or the other. Conversion therapy is a scam and is sold to people who cannot accept the sexual preferences of their children.

But, telling a child their homosexuality is biological instead of them suffering from abuse or emotionally disordered parents is also cruel. This has nothing to do with not being an exact blueprint, it's the child showing the effects of a disturbed parental relationship or outside abuse.

That's not only psychologically incorrect it's a fairly cruel thing to say. To claim that all homosexual is based on parental abuse is fairly ridiculous, intolerant, over the top, and a huge misunderstanding of gay culture and the causative factors.

Nations that have complete bans on conversion therapy have made the more rational and civilized choice.

Just as bans on slavery, human trafficking, etc.

Those that lack complete bans have room for improvement.

Sad to learn that Thailand is in the latter category.
