Trump’s New Air Force One to Keep Royal Lavish Interior

Trump’s New Air Force One Keeps Royal Luxury Interior fit for a King

A flying palace with a presidential badge

The Boeing 747 gifted by Qatar is set to become Donald Trump’s new Air Force One — and despite a $400 million overhaul, much of its opulent, royal-style interior will remain intact.

Originally built for the Qatari royal family, the jet features oversized leather seating, plush lounges and decorative touches more typical of a private palace than a military aircraft. Officials say those luxury elements are largely staying, with only minor cosmetic tweaks like removing Arabic signage and swapping artwork.

Security over style

The real focus of the overhaul hasn’t been aesthetics — it’s been security. The aircraft has been stripped and rebuilt with advanced communications systems, allowing the president to command military operations and run government from the air.

Before modifications began, the jet underwent extensive sweeps to ensure no surveillance devices or hidden vulnerabilities remained — a critical step given its foreign origin.

Faster, cheaper, politically controversial

Keeping the interior largely unchanged wasn’t just a design choice — it was a practical one. Rebuilding a bespoke presidential interior would have added years of delay and significantly higher costs, requiring complex certification processes.

Instead, the Air Force opted for speed: adapt what’s already there, install secure systems, and get the aircraft operational quickly.

Still, the decision to accept the plane from Qatar has drawn criticism, with opponents raising ethical and national security concerns about a foreign government gifting a presidential aircraft. Trump dismissed those concerns, arguing it would be foolish to refuse.

Not quite the full Air Force One package

Despite its luxury, the jet won’t fully match the capabilities of the current Air Force One fleet. It lacks some practical features, including:

  • A dedicated press cabin (replaced with curtained seating)

  • Full onboard food storage capacity

  • Certain structural features needed for specialized missions

It also won’t handle “Golden Eagle” flights — missions transporting the remains of former presidents.

A stopgap with a statement

The aircraft is expected to enter service this summer as an interim solution while newer, purpose-built Air Force One jets remain delayed.

In the meantime, it offers something unusual: a blend of royal extravagance and military function — a flying symbol of both geopolitical dealmaking and presidential power.

Only minor cosmetics, so the toilets are gold already.

Thanks to the Emir of Qatar: Fit for a King!

I thought there was a law prohibiting Presidents accepting gifts, that they go to the Smithsonian or somewhere.

Does it have an ejection seat?

was it given to Trump or to the POTUS, if the gift was for POTUS then Trump will little or no use of it as he will be impeached/removed soon

Second hand bogs that have seen more than a few Qatari logs squeezed out into.

Arabic notions of Royal fitments contrast rather with the conventional Western idiom.

Seems a security lapse to disclose that the 14 year old interior fittings are being largely left untouched, including wall dividers including positions of bedrooms and meeting rooms. The layout specified by the Arabs is in the public domain. You're meant to leave an element of uncertainty.

It leaves the impression of a Spirit Airlines ending up in a IndiGo livery, with the same hose down interior.

He might be impeached (a big "might"), but it will never, in a month of sundays, get past a Senate trial. If it gets to that point, any normal President, like Richard Nixon, will call it a day, and think of the country, and go of their own volition.

he doesn't have the cojones to quit and he's anything then a "normal" president he's not even a normal human being
