Nice apartments at the entrance to my gated community. A row of shop houses that didn't sell, so the top 2 floors became 2 condos and the bottom floor rented as a shop. About 50 condos and 25 shops. T

I go twice or 3 times a year, and I pay nothing since my family owns a big house, and the only reason we reside in OZ is because of my pension and health insurance, and my Thai wife makes up to 65 AUD per hour being a head nurse.

Then your pension would be reduced to zero. Unless you are ripping off the system. Your alleged million dollar Lotto win would bugger that up as well. Sorry I call BS on your post.

I am not really sure the point of this dumb thread...

But 20 years ago I used to rent a fairly ok apartment in Pattaya for 3500 a month but the electric rate was double the government rate so when it was hot, the electric bill was often the same as the rent...Back then the bar girls did rent some real <deleted> rooms for 2000 a month I saw....Horrid places....I don't know if its even possible to rent that cheap anymore..

I once rented a black hole, in what was then called Calcutta, for a year at 500 Rupees a month. I later found out it was a poorly renovated septic tank. I shared it with 386 rats, 11,295 cockroaches and a leper. The leper was quite a lucky find, as he kept the rats and roaches off of me in the night and was noticeably thinner every morning. The pit next door served as a short time hotel for the local bestiality and coprophiliac bars, and many an enjoyable evening was spent listening to the carousing, bleating, whoopie making and whoopsie venerating coming from that quarter before a recount of the vermin population then curling up as far from the leper as allowable and getting a good night's sleep. What I didn't know was, when I first rented the place the owner took out a life insurance policy on me, and when I gave notice to leave, killed me for the pay out. But I was young then and can laugh about it now.

Thailand has 10 day silent retreats. I might try it one time.

Assuming you are serious, I'd advise a weekend retreat first. It's not easy for someone as chatty as you appear to spend days on end sitting around not talking without knowing why.

I guess I might fit into your concept of monastic level deprivation :) Many years ago, I occasionally had to do this out of financial constraints, caused by either the first or second of my Thai wives - well ex-wives shortly before that financial deprivation! I learnt how to enjoy a simple life with the smallest of incomes.

But having dumped the wives, my financial situation improved, but my need for an expensive condo etc didn't return. My working years in south-east Asia after divorce mostly involved teaching at different locations, and I got tired of struggling with several heavy bags when moving around the countries. (Even my previous hobby of ham radio and bulky radio transceivers has diminished after 2 arrests in Laos for legally enjoying my hobby...)

Nowadays, I can fit all my worldly goods into a single carry-on case, (still including mast and radio antenna for weather satellite data reception!) - it's surprising how modern technology can provide entertainment, communication and work equipment in a few small electronic devices.

Additionally, despite my income increasing as I get older (state pension + online income + in-class income), I have no need to leave any inheritance to family (apart from my Thai son), since most decided to remove themselves from that option by "cutting me off" yonks ago. I have very good medical insurance - so what's one meant to do with the extra income? As some know, I decided to use my money to try to offset (in a very minor way), the lack of education in Myanmar, which has only worsened since Covid and the military coup in 2021. Books, software app development, poster printing etc does add up in $$ as I try to help more and more schools.

So I don't regard my circumstances as 'deprivation' in any way. Perhaps 'simple living' is a better description. In any case, I am very content with my life, no stress, no worries about consumer goods, daily interaction with pretty young female Burmese teaching assistants lol. (No plans to marry again.....yet).

As to renting an apartment for $68/month, I can't quite manage that! I pay $100/month for a 60 sq m room with a swimming pool (in Siem Reap), but I'll end that rental contract in a few days when I return to Myanmar.

So basically you are a loser. A couple of months ago you were spruiking the benefits of living in the UK. Before that where were you? A few other countries, Mauritius? Or some such place? Now you hate that. Very hard to give you any credibility.

Anyone wanting to return to Myanmar needs counselling. I lived there for five years pre coup. I have no desire to return. Its a <deleted>hole of a country.

You have had time to respond to that post so when are you going to answer my question, assuming that you can do so truthfully.

I think we will all assume that you are lying if you fail to say where you are renting that so called bungalow!

I appreciate your kind comment. Please follow, I'll write more of how I survive on SS living in Japan and Thailand. I also have a Thai car and motorcycle license. My lady and I, we have and still continue do charity ( small ) at Mery House in Chonburi and “Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Girls’ Home.” Thank you for reading my post.

Not hard to get a car and bike licence in Thailand. Why bother mentioning that a few times?

You lecture me on lifestyle but you dated a bargirl for 2 years. Whooosh

Come on guys, you are ruining a good thread.

Show some respect.

I spent my first years in Thailand in basic rooms with cold water, including bungalows on the beach. Met some good people. Not because I couldn't afford better.

The real world and the weird posters on here are world's apart. Thailand is great. They have lots of fitness retreats which I can looked into but I can go from gym to gym in 4 different towns and have more fun. In March I went to gyms in Bangkok, Hua Hin, Pranburi, Prachuap and Ban Krut. Had a 10/10 time. These thumbs down guys don't do anything. All unhappy. All experts on the middle east. To see what they look like I can go to a mall and see hunched over backs and long faces.

Your obsession with gyms may make the casual poster wonder if you may be homosexual.

A retreat would certainly do what bikes and cheap hotels cannot: relieve your very blatant dukkah.

Why does @Rockyroad insist on hijacking posts and replying with nonsense and a consistent lack of content? It is annoying and diminishes good posts.

im guessing you are not popular with woman

Does the apt have AC and hot water?

..........or have an inferiority complex......................

I remember a guy in Chiang Mai who was renting a room for 2000/month. He said he was licking ants off the floor for the protein.

NO, it has a large barrel of water to take a bath and a Japanese style toilet you have to put water in it. Actually, I just use the apartment at night time.

People talk about things that interest them. I like beaches and gyms. You're gay which is why you talk about homosexuals. But that's ok. You can come out of the closet boy.

The Lotto win would put you well above the asset level and fail to meet the requirements for the pension. Your pension would be zero.

Your wife's address is irrelevant, you , jointly, would fail the income test as well.

Any pension you are receiving by fraud. I sincerely they government does not catch up with you. Assuming you are telling the truth, about which I have my doubts.

And yes I am educated about the Australian aged pension, a lot more than you it would seem.
