New passport

Featured Replies

Hi all, I will be coming back into Thailand with a fresh Canadian passport. My valid non-o visa and re-entry stamp is in my old canceled passport. Does anyone know the process of coming back through thai immigration?

Show both passports when you enter, and then have the visa stamps transferred to your new passport at the immigration office that issued the visa (or extension).

OP correct answer above ^

When the io stamps you in have a quick look at the date stamped in pp (until date) should be same as reentry permit date in old pp.

Also note for stamp and visa info transferred at immigration CW have added a requirement to present bank book (using money in bank method)

Anyone who has a re-entry, do not leave the area of the imm officer who stamps you in until you've checked they have correctly date stamped you in until the expiry date of your re-entry.

Arriving one time, the imm officer didn't correctly date stamp me in until the expiry date of my re-entry. Before he started with the next person inline behind me, I pointed this out to him. He wasn't happy (even though HIS error), but called another officer who took me to an office, gave me the correct date stamp and cancelled the wrong one.

I'm taking my new passport into Jomtien office next week to get visa stamps transferred. Anyone know if it's done while you wait or do you have to come back next day?

Can't answer definitely. Know it's next day for retirement extension.

Think transfer would be on the spot.

Here is form.

Has list of required docs at bottom.

I did it in my own immigration office and it was done while waiting. A long process of of stamping every stamps since my origin OA, first extension, and the last. Almost and hour before he finished. Make sure you have the right form/application when you arriving, if not they give it to you, and also photo copies, if that is not a service they do for you. They did it for me, and I had to pay them 20 baht or so for the copies.

That's why I mentioned Jomtien immigration, every office is different.

I have done this 1 week ago at the Udon Thani immigration office. Just hand them the old and new passport. They will transfer your retirement visa and multiple entry (if applies) into your new passport. The process took about 30 mins depending on the crowd. They charged me 500 baht. Hope this will help.

Besides already explained about immigration: You'll need to update your new passport – take both passports with you – in your Thai bank(s); Land Transport Office for Drivers License (if any); and any other place your passport is used as ID, for example Central's "1 Card".

Sound advice especially re Bank a/c

Think you will find not many bother with TDL update but rather wait till next renewal.

I apologise in in the wrong area, but searched for Beitish Passport renewal forms and I know agents can send on an e-mail and one sent bot very clear.
Any ideas please and thanks

Problem with bank is that you cannot withdraw funds with a bankbook, as they check passport number against what is recorded in the system. Bangkok Bank furthermore has the passport number printed in each bankbook on last page together with signature, both ink only visible in ultraviolet light.

I don't know if it's a problem having an old passport number in DL, if you get checked. It's easy to change and a minor fee for a new DL; so, why not get things in order. Some also use DL as ID.

Other places you use passport as ID, are for example mobil phone; it's important to bring that up-to-date, as the old passport has a validity date. And the reason why I specific mention Central's "1 Card", as using points of rewards you'll need to show ID with passport. If not same number as registered, you cannot claim your bonus. And by the way, changing passport in Central's system, which was easy peasy before, has become the most difficult part of renewing one's passport – I talk from utterly time consuming experience last year, where they — among other time consuming checks — also send OTP to your regsitered cell phone to check that you are the genuine card-holder...🤨

That's why I stated update bank account.

All the other things you list are important to you however none required for me.

I never used my TDL for ID.

I use pp for all things such as hotel check in etc.

In fact two visits back to Pattaya the hotel refused my TDL.

Only used it as there was a thread on Aseannow about that.

In Bangkok a trip to transport office is not simple.

Card rewards etc have no interest to me.

Everyone has different requirements.

Why they charged you 500 baht? It is a free service transfer visas from old to new PP

However, your mobile phone might be important to you...😉
My comment was also based on other members that are reading the thread, they might make use of what I mentioned.

For sure. As stated different strokes for different folks.

For example phone # .... I don't use banking app. Have never done anything with regards my sim card (True)

I in the main was pointing out that for most folk apart from bank nothing is urgent/necessary.

I'm certainly not about to update my TDL pp details in Bangkok.
