The best youtubers in Thailand are Thai. The farang ones seem to be scratching around for ideas. Doyle's latest Yala one is so bad. It is just fluff. He seems to appeal to the novice white crowd.

Sabbatical covered the Muslim South last week, not bad, not up to his usual impeccable standards tho........

Yep, you’re never on the site. Not like some people who are completely obsessed and somehow spend 16 to 18 hours a day here posting gibberish starting at 5 AM, averaging 50 posts a day. But not you. N

It depends. A book is one-way communication — you read it, but you can’t really exchange ideas, ask questions, or debate views with it. People use forums for different reasons. Books still have value,

Found this site after hearing bad things about it on a site I used to like called Phuketwan. They'd say things like it was full of mongers, misfits, losers and sad sacks. That site stopped - partly I think as the owner had some issues in Thailand - and so I had a look here sometimes - along with planning Thai holidays - when bored at work . Joined when covid happened and I was kept out of Thailand. Continue to have a look and post from time to time - a bit of fun - despite not living there but still going a bit.

When it was all mongers and misfits it was much more fun here.

It used to be a must click , then a might click, lately it’s a why am I clicking at all here?

Reddit has the volume and variety I want. Here, neither.

But with a new girlfriend, gym trainer three times a week, and language classes, even if it weren’t an autistic spazz fest here, I foresee popping in when I go to the Ubon candle festival to collect a few impressions rather than a daily habit.

Hope it's a good trip. Your partner looks nice. Candle festival is excellent. Still feels really thai and fun. Big wax statue things are impressive.

I spent three days at the white person forest wat there a long time ago . If you stay beyond that they want you to shave your head.

Ajarn Chah who was the Abbott was a little bit famous in the west because so many of the popular semi famous meditation teachers in the West studied with him.

When I thought I was dying, I went to Ubon. And then I felt better and made eggs sandwiches at breakfast place for a while.

Her mom is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s and very devout, so this will very likely be her last trip

She booked two tickets for the train so that when the sun is high, we can move across the aisle where it is less punishing.

TD collapsed last month. It had the best posters on it in regards to knowledge about SEA but lots of swearing lol

I had a look when this site went down for a while. It had a strange almost dark atmosphere where people seemed to all know each other well and some liked each other and some clearly didn't seem to like each other - felt almost like a private thing between very long term expats. Too few people can make a site feel odd.

Mostly 15 to 20 year posters there but lots of knowledge. Not much trolling. They didnt turn every topic into politics.

Fodors used to be good as did Thorntree. They were the 2 best Thai forums other than TD.

Been out cycling this morning, usual 15Km and coffee with a pal.

But at age 70, the rest of the day will be sitting around the house, reading a book, playing Civilization 6, reading forums, listening to music, watching a movie or tv show.

You guys all expect too much from old folks.

Me, finalizing ball park idea for O&A tomorrow, since my new toy arrived.

Or waiting for the wife to set up a "Go Fund my Stupidity" for bail money, since I shouldn't have tried to get pics of planes taking off at RTAF Wing 5 cheesy

That 'follow me' or them feature worked really good ...

I was texting with Cameroni And a finicky one today, I keep up with them both with a fair bit off the board.

Both cited The now unreadable factor of the board as the reasons why they no longer want to post to here.

You know who I mean by the Unreadable factor.

I've kind of lost complete interest in AN myself. I bypass 99.9% of threads. I don't even pay attention to EV or Solar, since having, and usual answered before I see them. Unless someone replies to me, there nothing for me to post to. And most of those I don't bother replying to, as trolls.

Food, My View, O&A, and movie recommendations ... it's a quick read now. Usually before I finish my first cup of coffee in the morning.

Have no desire to read what most threads are about, or the repetitive 'debate' to ignorant people.

It was interesting for a while, with a few fine like minded folks here.

Just to thread Jack, my own thread, if you add of all the contacts on your WhatsApp and LINE accounts How many people do you know from and would answer them back, to mid-level couple of times a year friends, two weekly To chat?

I’m at about a Third for each category

Contrary to the boring rantings of lonely old men here, I’ve never been so socially connected in my life. And even some of the older and more infirm posters here, still talk about having friends they go out and drink with, live in girlfriends, and Internet communities.

Are people here more or less less connected than they were back home?

I prefer youtube these days even though those guys gloss over things a little but you talk Thailand as good as anyone. Too much Trump talk has killed normal discussion. Ai too has taken over as a source of info, not perfect but more accurate than humans.

But there's no substitute for personal experiences.

AN would be such a better forum if the mention of "Trump" was not allowed.

I don't have any contacts on anything other than FB, and that's all of 10+1, 5+1 are family, + = the dog, has her own page. Dog has more friends than me, people are strange.

3 in TH, wife, kid, +dog, friend

7 in USA, (3 of family)

I don't exaggerate when I say I'm a bit anti social.

You've got 'Save the Frogs' syndrome. Says he's had enough but back the next day posting away.

I must really got it bad. Wake up, have coffee, read news, FB, YT, email check, then start to scroll thru AN, but get bored after the first or second 'load more activity', which might only be 1 hr of threads, then think ... why bother.

Trump, TH / USA bashing, fake news, deranged postings & handbags tossing.

Before I used to scroll till the last time I was on AN, whether 3-6-9 hrs. Also noticing, not much new threads, or as many active threads ... of interest. Caught myself a couple times, just reading first page.

So yea, only popped on now, since out all day, and replied to a few reply. And no interest in scrolling thru to see if I missed anything since yesterday.

When I need a break I eat a Kit Kat.

Also Cameroni got sick of the love cynics. Couldn't hack it. But I am sure they are still happy together.

A book and a forum are both time soaks.

I do feel like I am sort of having a dialogue with the Chinese package delivery guy.

I have my breakfast group, my GF, and about a half a dozen people who I check in with on WhatsApp every day. Plus a rotating crew of about a dozen more.

I am here more to toss out some jokes than seek connection.

Jesus, I don't like people enough for all that.

Have my American wife (34) and 4 casual friends. Thats about 4 people too many..
