Taking breaks

Do you check out from here regularly?

What makes you do so?

For me, if I have a really good book, I spend less time on here and on Reddit.

While in Singapore, I bought a book called, I deliver a packages in Beijing.

It’s about the life of a person who moves from the countryside to better his life and do that terrible boring job and what it’s like in China.

It is really drawing into that world in a way that no other medium can. It reminds me that you don’t really need a plot for a compelling story, just a clear voice.

So I’ll be light here for a while.

What is your life rhythm that brings you here and takes you away?

Yep, you’re never on the site. Not like some people who are completely obsessed and somehow spend 16 to 18 hours a day here posting gibberish starting at 5 AM, averaging 50 posts a day. But not you. N

People use forums for different reasons. Books still have value, but they serve a completely different purpose and medium.

It is light entertainment. I spend more time on google maps or youtube.

I'm not a fan of news sources where you can't comment on articles such as BBC, Google News.

I listen to podcasts and radio stations on catchup or youtube and while doing that look on here and facebook and Instagram.

That's when I'm not out and about which is better

A book and a forum are both time soaks.

I do feel like I am sort of having a dialogue with the Chinese package delivery guy.

-translated into 18 languages already, by the way.

I have my breakfast group, my GF, and about a half a dozen people who I check in with on WhatsApp every day. Plus a rotating crew of about a dozen more.

I am here more to toss out some jokes than seek connection.

Some of the fairly new to Youtube Chinese vloggers do a good job of run of the mill every day life vlogs, that I really enjoy, so different from elsewhere........possibly, not sanctioned by the powers that be, as indirect soft power, but regardless, many with the advent of quality AI voice translation can communiucate their clear voice..........

I take it you mean Google Earth, not Maps. I find it fascinating, and so clever, type in a postcode/zip code, and there it is, with the ability to look at how the place was in previous years. Then there is the Moon! Wonderful.

The Pub forum is my favourite place, it's the only forum I follow.

All the AN forum intellectuals hang out here.

Too bad we don't see many postings these days from Professor Georgie boy and what the bloody hell happened Bob Smith. 😂

Second question:

With the overwhelming glut of stuff, how does new stuff work its way into the mix?

And what was the last new thing you looked at?

TX22 with 60 round MAG.

Lubbed up of course.

Google maps but earth is good too. I love maps. Rarely see paper maps anymore. This book shop owner used to have country maps for the entire world but went broke. GT Rider had the best Thai maps laminated to last long. I'm currently studying KPN and Samui maps.

Tiktok used to be my choice for up to the minute info and trends, but it's so diluted with AI, which has taken the edge off my enjoyment, so not worth the effort anymore imo...been cold turkey for 8 months now and frankly, I haven't found anything that compares to it's old self, so I'm failing miserably in the novel department...........

Fun challenge for you if you fancy.....are you able to pinpoint the location of Sun Sand Resort on Koh Samui, or at least where it used to be located.....?..

I only check in once a day to read the Thai-news and check, if there are some important new threads of interest about living in Thailand, or replies to earlier comments that I made — that's it...thumbsup

And by the way, I also do read books — and do lots of other stuff — when not hooked on my daily 15 minutes and up to maybe one hour, if I comment on something, on AN...smile

Getting sick of the forum.

Wasting too much time.

Time for a permanent break for me.

You clearly have no delusions whatsoever about how you spend nearly all your time. It is obvious you have a very busy schedule and are far too occupied with Google Maps and YouTube to spend more than a few seconds a day on this site for a tiny bit of light hearted entertainment, if even at all. In fact, I’m genuinely surprised to see you here suddenly blessing us with your presence today.

Oh wait…

Breaks are not needed. I come for the invaluable trolls, plonkers, and misfits, but stay for the oddly magnificent insights shared here on how to live a very busy, fulfilling, and extremely productive life in the real world.

Well, thank you Susan, that means so much to me coming from such a well-balanced self-aware gal like yourself. Any other invaluable insight you can offer? Maybe something about how you manage your estrogen levels so successfully?

The best youtubers in Thailand are Thai. The farang ones seem to be scratching around for ideas. Doyle's latest Yala one is so bad. It is just fluff. He seems to appeal to the novice white crowd.

Not only that, how many topics did he start himself touting nothing more than a YouTube video link from Doyle and half a dozen other jobless knobs?
